PROTEST IN FRON OF THE HOUSE OF THE MAJOR, AGAINST POUNDS IN SAN NICOLAS, A SMALL TOWN IN ARGENTINA. THERE WAS NOT POUNDS ANY MORE THERE BUT THE MAYOR WANTS TO INSTALL POUND AGAIN INSTEAD OF SPY NEUTER CAMPAIGNS.

To compare my friend's situation (euthanzining perfectly healthy young animals) with the situation here in S. Ontario, where the vets push spay/neuter as soon as you walk into their office, when my friend wanted to get a puppy for her daughter, SHE COULD NOT FIND ONE! However, the local pound was full of large breed older dogs that no one wanted.
She finally rescued a year-old boxer/GSD mix from a shelter over 100 miles away. They named him Skippy, and he's a wonderful pet.
So, let's hear it for spaying and neutering! It does work.

Moons, If every person had your attitude and philosophy regarding rescues and shelter dogs, no animal would have a chance. At least that is how I read what you're saying. PLease correct me if I am wrong.

My philosophy is quite simple, I am responsible for all animals great and small, for their sake and not my own.
I think people are misguided by propagandists such as Peta and their own selfishness.
Try this,
go deep into the interior of Mexico, a small town without tourism, and get yourself arrested, put yourself into that system.
You will just barely get a taste of what an animal goes through in the shelter system.
Add to that the fear and real smell of death to top it all off.
Walk in anothers footsteps, leave your emotions at the door.
Try to understand the animals you think your protecting.
Stop changing your post starr.

Again, your logic makes no sense to me. What goes on in Mexican prison system is something I have no control over and it will not dictate what I choose to do here in the USA to help either animals or humans. Also, I have seen enough of the animal shelter system here to know that getting them out of there as soon as possible is the best thing for those animals that are adoptable. But, you seem to think killing them is better?
As I said, we will have to agree to disagree.
I am done discussing this with you also. There is no point and it is a waste of my time. As Blitzen, said, you never fail to dissapoint.

Actually Moons I did not equate animals with humans, I was pointing out that the logic principle of the analogy by Starrcharr was the same. 10 puppies rehomed - odds are they did not all live the great life? 10 puppies sold by breeders same odds?
Maybe then you are in fact advocating the PETA approach, if you are saying that most animals cannot be guaranteed a great life. I will tell you this, which someone said to me yesterday, that getting a rescue dog was much harder than simply going and buying a dog from a breeder! This was following a 2 hr interview with me for a puppy. No, it doesn't always apply, many breeders are very discerning, but so are many 'shelters' or 'rescue centres' as we call them in the UK. The point is we try. If you don't try you have accepted defeat. Don't produce any more dogs at all in case they end up in a shelter or are badly treated. Embrace PETA and all it stands for.
