Agree with the article posted, would have a vets opinion and would depend on if it goes away. Saw a litter of pups a week or so ago all pups had good size hernias in my opinion more genetic than anything.  Our male had a very small one as a pup and as per vet it would close on its own, which it did in under a month.

sometimes they are not a real hernia were there is hole that wont close up,many times they close ok but later than normal and thereby trapping a small ball of body fat

As the article link that Jenn put up says... a delayed closure is not a true hernia! MOST veterinarians do not know the difference therefore, I would never trust a vet's opinion on a delayed closure. A true hernia is jagged and has a thickened edge that is not flexable. HUGE difference between the two.
I would never disqualify a dog from breeding because of a delayed closure.

i have never seen a true hernia only delay closure djc is right . i feel the same way.
