Triod, how often is your husband present when the two males have been loose together and started fighting?
Both males are intact, both of them entered your life when they were already adults. They may be in competition with each other for you, the female.
In my household I am currently living with my dad because I am going to school full time. So we have a house full of dogs.
3 adult intact male German Shepherds ages 2, 3 and almost 8.
5 intact female dogs, both German Shepherds and small breed, ages 8 months to almost 4 yrs old.
I am in charge of all the female dogs, my father is in charge of the male dogs and it works out well. Only when we mix genders will there sometimes be some scuffles.
That is, if it's just my dad and the 3 male dogs hanging out then there are never any issues. All 4 could laze about the house or romp around outside all day no problems.
Same goes if it's only me and the girls without any male dogs (it's ok with the girls if my dad is present too)
However, if I'm out with the male dogs, then the 8 yr old male believes he must gaurd me from the 3 yr old male. If the female dogs are out with the male dogs then the 3 yr old male wants to challenge the 8 yr old male and the 2 yr old male gets pissed at the females because they annoy him. The 8 yr old male will challenge anyone who he thinks may hurt me or if they try to take his ball/toy.
So the males just get all out of whack when there are females present.

There is no mystery to it.
It was a bad idea.

If they were fighting over her, it certainly wasn't because she is a female HUMAN.
