Bhaugh

If you just want to socialize your dog, on leash you can go just about anywhere (other than the dog park yuck) with your dog. I used to socialize in front of Walmart with all the people coming and going and in PetSmart or Petco for dog interaction. Sign up for dog play dates with others in your neighborhood (ie Yahoo groups). Consistency and lots of exposure to different stimuli will make for a happy dog.

No comment on the trainer. The fact that he asked you not to come back says he obviously doesnt know what to do with you and if you paid for several classes I would be asking for my money back.

But to be fair to the trainer....feel free to set us all straight because you sound like a nut (to the dog trainer)

What an idiot! (The trainer, that is!)

Last summer, I spent most of the day observing at a local schutzhund club. One of the strictest rules is that NO ONE'S dog is allowed off leash, unless it's needed for the exercise being performed, and while other dogs are being trained, your dog is IN YOUR CAR!

I know several people whose dogs have become nervous or aggessive with other dogs after being atttacked. It's extremely unfortunate this happened, but it sure as hell wasn't YOUR fault!

bhaugh,

I will do the above, thank you.

Why do i sound like a nut.....to the trainer, unless of course you are the trainer in question......or would only a nut think that!!!!!!!

What would you like me to set straight.

roxydog, Bhaugh was addressing that comment to the trainer--not you.  IOW, if the trainer happens to be reading this thread, he's more than welcome to log on in and post his side of the story, because right now he sounds like a nut.

Bhaugh, VERY cute bunneh. House rabbit?

oh right, now i do feel like a nut.......

I learnt a lot buying my first gsd. He was 18months old and after a while it became apparent he wasn't right, while he was a big softie to my husband and me, no one could come near us.
He attacked our coalman and made threats to two of our workmen, ripping clothes but never breaking skin....not that it's any better behaviour.
We had him on a zip line that he was fine on, but us, being humans, thought he'd rather the run of the garden(a little under half an acre). So we fenced it up, but within two minutes of letting him off the zip line, he dug out and ran to the nearrest road and got knocked down. He wasn't a dog I could walk, as I feared meeting others and he tried to attack passing cars.
Sinced then, I learned that he was a fear driven GSD with serious anxiety.

It didn't put me off GSDs, I know a good few, so I got Max at 6 months old, there's not many available around me. I got him off a reputable breeder that was recommended by several people.
I just dont want the same thing to happen. ie, a nervous gsd afraid of everything from cars to cats.

I spend a lot of evenings alone and live in an isolated area so I admit I get a lot less bother when I answer the door with Max by my side.
