Thank you to everyone for your suggestions! Yes, would have been nice to have the vet tell us this in advance. Just a shock. The ear is folded all the way down forward at this point.
Thanks for sharing the photos too. We plan to try all the suggestions. (That is not the first time I have been told about something medical where Europe is ahead of us.)

Some vets will put insert in the ear. (Sometimes made from x ray film) I would not worry about it though.
Next time when you have hematoma on the dogs ear, make the vet slice the skin, clean the space between the cartilage and skin well and stitch then the skin in many places to the cartilage . Then tape the ear and put Elizabethan collar on the dog. I had 100% success rate with this technique mif doen early.
Now is too late.
Just love him. Messed up ear gives him a character of a warrior. :))
