Red Sable..... heh, yeah, it probably has to do with the breeds. It's pretty well known around here that I am not a little dog person. I like my big rough-and-tumble dogs. :)
I have been around male dogs that were friends dogs, and they are awesome, but I can't say that because of them I like males better, because I am around them a few hours at best.

Many years back someone in dogs told me that most often Men prefer female dogs, and Women prefer male dogs.... don't know if that's true or not, but the dogs I've bonded most closely to have been Males. Biff, Shiloh, Wizard and now Ikon... however there's been many of my female dogs who own a piece of my soul as well... Misty, Katie, Nikki, Shots, Sarah, Lil bit... the males were all GSD's, the females were from several breeds, Shepherd, Aussie, Peke, Papillion and Tibetan spaniel... Though I've loved all my furkids... some just had a bond that went beyond loving a pet. Ikon, Misty and Wizard were my "soul dogs"
If I had no dog at all (can't imagine that) I'd choose a male most likely... But you never know. I've gone convinced I wanted something specific, and one pup in the litter caught my eye. As Ken Rayner (GSD Handler,AKC) said of Wizard's mom when he graded their litter... I know that this other dog is more correct, but there's just something that keeps drawing me back to this one... When the heart knows tis best just to go with it!

I learned to like the female dog over the male for my living exp(s). When it comes to wildlife and farm dogs the females do exactly what one poster mentioned on the first page. They keep other animals away from you or your property. Especially yotes, brown/black bear and wild/stray dogs. For some reason they can manage this task unlike the male who pretty much wants and begs for a confrontaion, whereas the female prevents a confrontation altogether. This is just how I see it. The female is way more demanding and in your face when it comes to protecting children and for some reason know the difference between kids and adults. The female won't let anyone or any wild animal near a human and especially children, whereas the male will stay near the human and wait till whateva is close enough to confront with aggression. The female won't allow a confrontation, she drives them away with aggression and prevents confrontations. I learned this over the years with the GSD and Mal. My female Malinois and female Cattle Dog together manage my properties. I haven't lost any livestock (except for peeps and chickens) and the kids who come over to hike and camp haven't been circled by yotes and bears since I have the Malinois, she will be 5 years old January 7th. She is amazing, thanks again !!!! We love her !!!

I haven't noticed too many differences in my males or females. The males were all very devoted to me and were one person type dogs. The girls were more independant. I've had serious males and females.
When I got my first dog, I was 12, so of course I wanted a girl buddy (uh, boys had cooties). Then in college I got a male pup to be man of the house with my 4 female roomies. Then I got married, and now I have no prefference in sex of my dogs. If I get another competition sport dog, it will probably be a male. If I get one that I hope to breed, I'd probably get a female.
