VKGSDs

I'm lucky all my dogs do spectacular on California Natural Lamb and Rice and it's $45.  I like that it's a limited ingredient diet (not loaded with crap) and a true all life stages diet so it is safe for my puppy.  Also I believe it's made in the US?  It's not grain free but so far that hasn't been an issue.  I can't feed raw because we don't have freezer space and I have no idea where to get it (I don't live in the country, have no idea where to find a cheap butcher).  I do feed some raw on occasion, mostly venison since we have an abundance of that.  The only supplement/additive I use is salmon oil when the weather is dry.  All the dogs have clean, healthy coats and are very healthy (no poop issues, good weight, no allergies or digestive problems).  I've also used TOTW, Wysong, and Fromm but prefer the Cal Nat.  One added bonus of the Cal Nat is that their poops are very small and formed, they dry out and turn white like raw poops.  The poop hardly smells.  Poop is important to me with several large dogs and a postage stamp yard!

Deanna,
I'm with you.....I just can't bring myself to switch to raw........I bit the bullet and started my older dog on Orijen Senior about a year ago........She was starting to have some arthritis problems....her coat was nasty and dull...and she had very little energy. It took about a month but WOW...the changes in her were dramatic....all for the better.

Needless to say when I brought Cisco home he was started on Orijen puppy and has now been on Orijen Adult for three months. He looks fantastic. I feed him 3 cups a day...because he's so active and growing........but my Senior dog, who weighs about 48lbs, only gets 1 cup a day and stays plenty round :)

I really like the levels of Glucosamine and Chondroitin in the Orijen and the quality of ingredients used. I know it's a pain on the pocket book.......my dogs are happier and healthier and that's all that matters

I have been using Canidae All Life Stages for about 7 or 8 months now. It is not totally grain free, but has nice protein sources and the dogs have done very well on it.
My male eats mostly raw, but I do try to get some of the dry dog food in as well. I figure if I am missing anything in his raw diet, maybe he will get it from the dry. My girls eat more ddry than raw, but they get some raw each meal. I use chicken leg quarters, Blue Ridge Beef Breeder's Choice, Natural Mix and Green Tripe products. I sometmes get big boxes from our local butcher that sometimes consists of trimmings, but sometimes consists of out of date today meat of all types, sometimes huge roasts.

Always nice to hear the feeding habits of others. I feed my four Eukanuba 30/20 and Eukanuba Natural. Tried a little raw but due to my inexperience, that was a disaster. Didn't think the portions were that much, the innards to a chicken) but don't have the time to clean that mess up again in the house!

30/20 is @ $55.00 for a 40 lb bag while Natural which they love a little more is around the same, maybe a couple $ more but for a 30 lb bag. So, I usually grab the Natural when on sale, equaling the other price. The dogs literally drool for the Natural before I can get their bowls to them. I haven't tried the others, thought about it a couple of times. Just don't have the time to experiment with a brand for ? long then do it again with another and so on. They look good, My Czech female is nice and muscular. Fast as the wind and strong! The pup is right there as big as her and just as fast and strong. My boy is almost ten and still acts like a pup at times taking on the others. My service dog that's all he been on since being at the kennel/school.

I was on the fence over raw but time is so limited can't afford those messes, especially in the house!

I had the same problem with TOTW.  It started out okay, but them my dogs seemed to lose weight and have a dry coat (not shiny).  I switched to Acana grain free and wow.  My dogs gained weight, eat less, and have a beautiful soft shiny coat without having to add an supplements.
I'm staying with Acana or Orijen.  I chose Acana because it has less protein and I have my two puppies and the two adults all on the same food.  I fed the Acana grain free wild prairie.
