Stick to the soft tempered dogs.  If you let a dog with any gumption on your bed, you'll be sleepy on the doggy mat.

A dog's place should never be in bed! Neither I or any of my family members would ever sleep in an unkempt, messy bed like that! cheeky That does not leave a good impression! My mother would disown me and my husband file for a divorce!

And yes, it is terrible to "humanize" dogs, especially large breeds like GSDs. While we do not mind having them in the house on occasion, the bed is certainly off limits. I don't crawl onto their pet beds either to go to sleep.

Sorry Brittany, I usually ignore posts like that but could not restrain myself this time!

Too often, I think people mistake a dog's will to please its master for enjoying the ways we tend to humanize them. Is a dog truly happier lounging in a human bed than s/he is on the floor w/his handler after a long walk or some kind of work? Doubtful. But dogs are predators, and predators adapt, so a dog whose needs as a dog are being ignored in favor of rain boots and sleeping in human beds may not show any outward signs of distress, thus perpetuating the theory that those pampered dogs are happy. Rather, the inappropriate treatment builds over time and inevitably, dependent upon the temperament of the dog, problems arise.

Good Posts Sibersee & Jenni78.
I do not think it healthy for a Dog to sleep on a Human bed not for the Dog or Human, However it is certain that some people like Brittany think the Dogs are like Humans little do they know that they do the animal no favours by treating them as such.
Okay some Dogs live in the house some outdoors owners prefernce, I bring Puppy Hektor indoors for 10 minutes or so some days more so if there is a visitor. I also let him go nose to nose with the Two Horses just along from me, it does him good but his home is outdoors where i know he can see the Pigeons Wild Birds and me in the Garden He does of course know Goran who he walks with every morning and he has played with his half sister Gina she takes no notice of him climbing on her back, So as done for 60 plus years these dogs will stay outdoors and keep well doing it,

Jenni, it sounded to me like you and several others were saying they couldn't be both. Steve1, my house dogs get the same as my "kennel" dogs...living in Florida, outdoor kennel dogs do have skin and coat problems. Mine are crated in an airconditioned building and have no coat or skin issues. Both my house dogs which consist of my schutzhund 3 competition bitch who is crated in the house but has some time loose too and my schutzhund 2 male who is always loose and spends his days while I am at work on my bed, and my kennel dogs are all roadworked a minimum of two miles a day up and down hills every night without fail. My bitch does two miles on the treadmill in the morning. They swim at least once a week. Work for at least one meal a day, depending on time and training schedules. They all go out for a minimum of a half hour of playtime with at least one other dog in the morning where they run and play. Train several times a week...an akc obedience class and agility class for some, schutzhund training for others. And like I said, have at least one training session each day for their meal, whether it be breakfast or dinner depends on the day. So yeah, I think my house dogs and my kennel dogs are getting every bit as much as your outdoor kennel dogs. And Red Sable, my dogs are in no way soft tempered dogs. My bitch is a Karn Fegelhof daughter...you don't get much tougher than that! She is by far the strongest bitch I have ever met, but she knows the rules. My male that spends his days on my bed is a very strong dog with plenty of "edge"...yet he knows the bed is his during the day but not at night. He never thinks of getting in the bed at night when occupied by my boyfriend and myself...only time he does is if we push the snooze button too many times in the morning, then he gives us a wake up jump...not so he can have the bed, but so that we can start our day. Silbersee, if I knew how to post a picture from my phone, I would. But my dog refuses to get on the bed if the bed hasn't perfectly been made! And he doesn't mess it up at all! He wouldn't dream of it. At most, you may find a toy or two laid on top of the bed. Bottom line is, we all have our own reasons and beliefs on how to keep and care for our dogs. Not one is better than the other. We need to do what we believe in our hearts is right and what works best for us and the dogs we share our lives with. I don't post on here often, but I hate to see people going after an innocent owner who loves and spoils her dog. If you don't believe in it or agree with it, then say nothing at all.

K9queen, it sounds like you missed Brittany's other posts that were the driving force behind this thread.

k9queen
I am not going after anyone at all, merely replying to a paragraph of Brittany's Post and she said
another member on here who i won't name out mention that we humanized our dogs, and treat them like if they were our children. Our Furbabies and not treat them as some dog
That was the thing i replied to because i had said the above and more than once but although i do not know if i am the one referred to i still said it so that is my answers above
As i said never in 60 plus years of keeping dogs have i ever had any skin or coat problem in any dog i have owned, and in all those years not one has lived in the house except when i moved to Belgium the Border Collie Charlie had to live in the house whist i made his Kennel and Run and he hated every minute of it.
I moved to Belgium in the middle of Winter and i turned off the Central Heating in the house and put a coat on just because the dog was uncomfortable with the heat, he did not like being indoors but there was nothing else to do until his kennel was built
Brittany's last bit above YES, They are Dogs Canines, Not Homo Sapiens they think differently to us and there needs are mostly different to ours and i will tell you they do not need much to make them happy not like us greedy Humans, so no Dogs are nothing like the Human race at all and should not be treated as such

I apologize as no, I didn't read any previous posts. I have nothing against people keeping dogs in kennels as long as they are well cared for and have proper protection from the elements when needed...and proper exercise and attention/training is equally important in my opinion. I would love to have indoor/outdoor runs for my kennel dogs as I too believe they are happy in kennels...and I hope to do so in the future. I have six dogs in my "kennel" which as I said consists of crates (great dane size that is) in an airconditioned building. One is a boarding dog, one is a training dog, the other four are my dogs of various ages and stages of training. My four month old puppy is currently in the house still but will soon be moving to the kennel/dog room too. Again, I'm sorry for not knowing what was behind the posts. I was just reading the current post. My bad.

"Neither I or any of my family members would ever sleep in an unkempt, messy bed like that! cheeky That does not leave a good impression! My mother would disown me and my husband file for a divorce!"

I really really wanted to say that but refrained as I'm sure some keep dogs on beds that are clean freaks and just wash their bedding daily, but for others, cheeky is right.

Gee, you folks must have some dirty dogs...lol..My male is not much for sleeping on my bed, but when he does it certainly does not need to be striped and washed because he laid on it...lol...I might add, that my home/bed is very neat and tidy...

If Brittney doesn't mind, why should anyone else ?....My female GSD slept in my bed for 14 years, and she was respectful , obedient and always knew her place....just sayin...

I do however, understand the point that Steve and Jenni are making and agree with most of it...: )

Deanna...: )
