Mystere

Yes, it is!  That thinning ozone layer means a stronger sun ray for everyone.  When I was a kid, it took only 15 minutes for me to start getting darker.   I could see 3 shades difference  from wating at a bustop when I took sandlals off and the covered portions would be 3 shades lighter than the rest of the foot.   Even wearing sunscreen religiously under make-up, I still must change to a foundation a shade or two darker every August.  I go back to the regular shade usually by October.

I laughed hard at the title because for the life of me I cant tan my legs. I lay out and they still wont tan. There is nothing more ugly than stark white legs with workout leggings. Yuck. So at this very moment I have opted for Jergens "Natural Glow" lotion with tanning agent. I tried the spray last week. That was a good thing gone bad. I am not giving up however in trying to make my skin look somewhat l less white from snow. I live in Vegas so I really stand out.

LOL! Hey fellow pasty whites! I'm one of those that burn in 5 minutes, then peel, burn again, peel, & so on. By the end of summer, I have a lot of freckles, & maybe a very subtle cream colored glow....LOL! All the better to show all those training bruises I sport! My hubby never goes out in the sun, he says he has a natural-born tan, & doesn't need to let his skin get any redder. I think his golden brown color is gorgeous! I've always admired my darker skinned friends, I think they are so much more beautiful than I am! I'll tell you, tho', melanoma does not discriminate, so EVERYONE needs to wear sunblock! Skin cancer is a very ugly, aggressive disease, so DO take it seriously, cover up when out in the sun! And reapply sunblock frequently, no matter what the label says, none of them are truly waterproof! jackie harris

HaHaHaHa!  I'm the opposite of you, Mystere.  I LOOK like a pasty white chick with about a million freckles, but I tan!  I have just enough Italian blood.  Even if I do burn, within two days it turns to a nice tan.  BUT, my knees and fingers have no hint of color, EVER!

Oh my gosh... I feel slightly guilty for laughing so hard!! All this talk about taking out planes, Ruddy Buddy, see through legs, sprays gone wrong... it's too much! Mystere, my daughter wears sun screen as well otherwise, she says she goes from a beautiful mahogany to asphalt in 2.2 seconds! It's at the point in the season I wear long sleeves and pants for yard work and such, or else my daughter starts calling me leather :(

Amazing, isn't it, how damn quickly black folks go darker in the sun?   You would think it would take a lot longer!

Mystere, don't you guys only get about 3 days of sunshine up there in the Pacific North Wet, per year anyway? LOL

I will have you know that in normal years, we have a REAL SUMMER, of sunshine all day and only a couple days of light rain during the work week.    The last two weeks we have had multiple , sunny 80 degree days.  Of course, it is overcast and in the 60s today.   But, that's fine.  As long as it rains on Thursday and Friday, I am fine with it--it means that the weekend will be dry and beautiful!!

Besides, haven't you heard, those overcast days are actually as dangerous as the sunny ones.

I tan in a salon with tanning lotion in spring and mid summer...there is nothing less attractive than a farmers tan with white shoulders and red neck ..LOL

by brynjulf on 09 July 2011 - 14:07

This thread just gets funnier and funnier.  We have all shades getting burnt into crispy critters. Various articles of clothing to sheild us and horrifying tan lines.  That does it I am mowing the lawn in the nude. If I'm going to burn I don't want a farmers tan! LOL.  So if you see a headline in the news " Oversized Lobster mows lawn in Northern BC it will be me :) now if I can just keep my backside from sticking to the plastic seat I will be good to go!
