Chaz Reinhold

Because (IMO) "good" dogs have a harder time passing a BH than obtaining a SchH 3. SchH was supposed to be a test for breedworthy dogs FOR police. So every dog that gets tied to a post and left alone should want to frolich with complete strangers? The BH is a joke. You do the pattern twice, why? Because if he is unruly, you'll find out the first time? Backtie a dog and fuck with him. If he bites the judges ass, I'd breed to him. If he sits there like a garden ornament, he needs to be sold to China.

Well hell, Chaz in that case why not also throw out the obedience needed in Phase C.

Just send the dog out there, let him bite the helper without outing or showing any clarity of nerve and balanced drive and ... oh wait, I think I saw that at the NASS.

Two totally different things. A dog should have control in the C, but the handler should also be present for that. You are being naïve.

( Kelly ) VonIsengard....We are long over due for a visit...I think you would be proud of Prince's OB...We are not ready just yet for a BH, but it is something I would like to work toward achieving in the future with your help....: )

RHLAR...Actually the scenario with Prince in a platz (with me out of site ) is not what would concern me the most. Prince would probably do better with me out of the picture...I would be concerned mostly about physical contact....Also, Prince HATES when strangers talk to him with eye contact...lol...
As long as no one talks to Prince or touches him, it's all good...: )

    Chaz...NOT China...: (

1.  The written test:  This is given to every new handler upon their first BH.  After you take and pass it you never have to take it again, even if you BH a new dog.  You have to pass with 70% of the questions right.

RLHAR, Where did you get this from? When I first got my BH on my oldest male as a new handler I was never given a written test to do. All I had to bring is myself and my dog out to the field at a partcular day and do the BH routine. No written test involved.

I am curious in which organization requires a written test for new handlers that is going for the BH? Don't you think that is pretty stupid?

Chaz Reinhold, Any good dog should be able to pass the BH regards. It should not be thrown out. If these "good" dogs have a hard time passing the BH well then they're truly not good dogs to the begin with.

Nice. Now I have the authority on the breed. Nice pic! Ask someone that actually works a dog on the street, not in a circle.

Ruger
I doubt the Judge will not pass the Dog in a BH for making an additional step or two but as i said on another thread practise as you say SIT and only say it once, Turn sharp into your Dog and face him he will sit right away and he will be in the perfect position when he comes to you on the recall after the Down or in Block Work, close up but not touching you practise that and it will work

Here are samples of the written test from the German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada (GSSCC):
http://www.gsscc.ca/official-documents.aspx

As a new person, I found this commentary on the BH test to be interesting:
http://www.bigskyschutzhund.com/articles-trial-rules/21-bh/22-your-first-trial-the-bh.html

As has been discussed on another thread here, the BH test will be changing in January 2012 (eg. no more sit/down out of motion; instead done from a standstill, etc.). The new rules will be posted on the GSSCC website (maybe Sept.ish?). (http://www.gsscc.ca/news.aspx - June 2, 2011 entry).

Brittany,

USA requires a written test for first time handlers.

The written started in the mid-2000s. Perhaps Bittany did it prior.
