For those of you who put your pups on kibble when weaning, do you use adult formula right from the beginning, or do you wait until they are older puppies to switch to the adult formula...I know that many people share the opinion that GSD pups should be on adult kibble formulas due to the lower protein content. I am just curious about how long, if at all, you feed the puppy forumla. Thanks!

StormCloud,
I feed puppy kibble, Royal Canin to be exact, for at least 5 months and perhaps one more month, depending on the pups. Then I consider switching, but do not always do so if the pups are having no problems with weight, panosteitis, ears are up etc......
I have a client whose pup who comes from a breeder who breeds poor quality dogs from American bloodlines. This pup may well have a pancreatic problem and is extremely thin, is still on puppy food at 8 months old and should be. This pup is also getting some supplements I have recommended, but I normally do not find it necessary to supplement when a good food is fed. I also told the owner to start adding in some Prozyme and that has helped the pup gain weight as well. We will see what happens when the dog is older......
