I agree it is very misleading when people advertise saying they have old family reds. We had a stud dog that died 2 years ago that made it to the age of 18 years old. He was extremely tight bred on Red devil. Most people in the GSD world would say it was too tight. Anyway with the right outcrosses he produced some excellent dogs.

I hear people still saying they have Colby dogs and other dogs that have been dead for 50 years. I just say ok, and keep on going. I will say because of linebreeding/imbreeding in some circles you can still get some old blood pretty close.

Did I miss a discussion where a dog was being advertised OFRN? These posts aren't making sense.

maybe the comments are being directed towards my comment of "give me a old rednose anyday".

Ok, then I'm not losing my mind. Good to know.

I was thinking of showing my dogs at an ADBA show but wondered how they'd even do anymore; they will look like miniatures compared to what I see around now. My male is a heavyweight (for those that know what really constitutes a heavyweight, lol) and all I get are comments like "but he's so small." No one even guesses my female is a Pit Bull. She's smaller than my GSD pups by the time they're 10 weeks. LOVE that size!!!

Their conformation is excellent...if the judges will still recongnize proper structure. Anyone been to a show lately? What type of dogs placed well?

No Jenn you didn't miss any posts. You had stated that "They have no idea what OFRN is." I was agreeing and pointing out how many red/rednose dogs are advertised by those that don't know any better as OFRN. Particularly since the true OFRN died out long ago. And for heaven sakes James 98 do not tell Louis Colby that his fathers dogs died out 50 yrs ago. He'll pop a cork since he still breeds his families line today. LOL. As far as ADBA shows go, at least around my area, the dogs that are winning in conf. still have the original APBT look. While I'll agree that these 100+# bully breed looking dogs aren't what an APBT should look like, the true APBT does come a little bigger than 50-60#. Since the Colby line was mentioned Colby's Pincher was a 75# OTC dog back in 1896. Of course he had the proper conformation.

Out of curiosity Jenn what bloodlines are you running in you APBT's?

Ok, thanks for clarifying. I must've reread what I wrote 5 times looking for an inference to what you said. LOL

Like GSDs, there are some dogs who are heavier and some are lighter; a lot has to do w/body type. I wouldn't dismiss any dog, APBT or GSD for a certain weight w/out seeing the dog and its build.

I also found James' statement ironic in that he mentioned Colby dogs in the same breath as 60lb max; there were definitely some heavy Colby dogs. I also hadn't heard that they or the Colbys died out 50 years ago. Here I thought Louis was still writing books and breeding.

As far as my dogs' lines, I don't breed Pits. I might do a litter one day, but w/the state of the breed, and me being such a control freak, I don't know if I could sleep at night, worrying that they were in the hands of some know-nothing gangbanger who'd feed them gunpowder. Of course, on the upside, most of those idiots wouldn't even recognize my dogs for what they are so they may not be interested, LOL.

I would like to show them in conformation though and maybe do weightpull w/them when my life gets a tad less hectic.

Anyway...they're just pets but I am trying to upload their pedigrees so you can see them. I'll post back.

Here's the female. Bought her as a bday gift for my bf last year. Need new pics of her, badly. She is 4 mos. old in this pic.  www.pedigreedatabase.com/american_pit_bull_terrier/dog.html

You never bought me a dog for my birthday! I thought it was funny. When I looked at the pedigree an ad with a picture of a dog wearing a 2" spiked collar was on top of the page.

Don, I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking when I posted that. How thoughtless of me.

Why don't you folks with these kind of dogs check out how the dogs are treated and bred by R T Coleman of Lancaster/ Palmdale, Ca?  That may not be his real name.  [janice style]
