I am so sorry for your loss. But think about the fact that she gave you a friendship that can never be duplicated.
I have only cried one time in my life and that was when I had to put my old male down when I was in my 30's

SitasMom,
I'm so sorry for your loss. You were lucky to have each other.
I'm feeling the same pain as you. One of mine died with her head in my lap last Sunday.
It is never easy and never will be.
Nonacona wrote some wonderful words to you. They ring true!
Best wishes to you at a tough time!

Oh I am so sorry for your loss! We also recently had to make that very hard decision to let our 13+ y/o girl go to the other side, where they will be waiting for us one day, tails a'waggin!

It wasn't too long ago I shared my life with a wonderful Aussie rescue, who had been dubbed as incurrably vicious and dumped at a pound with 8 Aussie/golden puppies. She challenged the rescue pickup and had to be removed from the Dog run witht a catch pole... Later that day she became my foster, along with her pups. After 6 weeks they went to their forever homes... but Misty stayed. Her trust was not easlily won, but she'd become my dog for life. She went on to be our Vet Clinic's blood doner dog, and official greeter in the office. She also brought up a number of other pups and dogs and guarded my home and car with her life.... *Sigh*... but this isn't about her, just letting you know that I've walked your trail, and know your heart right now. May Misty and Maddy be waiting at the gate... and heaven help anyone that tries to bar their way...

My heart goes out to you. It's never easy, but you gave her the best life she could have and you knew when it was time to let her go. That's true love, to let them go instead of holding on. Your love for each other will go on forever. Dwell on the good times and hold them close in your heart.

When on the eyes of dearest friends, the marble touch of death descends,
We see them in their last repose,
But when to us those eyelids close - they open somewhere to the light - the glory out beyond the night...
They wake where life's dark journey ends - to other joys and past good friends - who stand before their opening eyes - while we are saying our goodbyes.....
R.I.P. Sweet girl.So sorry for your loss.
I don't know who posted this before but I found great comfort in it and thought you might too.

I'm sorry doesn't seem adequate in situations like this when a loved one dies. She is probably running around in heaven with Loki having all kinds of fun.
My Oma said dogs were guardian angels sent to earth to learn about humans. Their lives are shorter because they come here knowing what it takes us a lifetime to learn. When they have learned what God wants them to know, they go home to begin their real work as a guardian angel to some special soul. If you want to know how God sees you, look into the eyes of your dog. She also said that dogs die with their eyes wide open because they see God and the wonders of heaven again.
Your dog learned a lot, about the bad and the good of humans, you taught her how great people can be and I am sure she will put that knowledge to good use.
