No offense taken.

"but I'm not going to support a venue that promotes a dog that prances in a circle and only adheres to the appearance side of the standard"

-------------------

Don -- do you "channel" Max?   This S/L vs W/L is so tiresome.   Show Line = CONFORMATION of the dog....is that so hard to understand?    If you are into Schutzhund, then you have a Sport Dog -- yes, a SPORT Dog.    A Sport Dog is NOT a true Working Dog.   Is that so hard to understand?

Max is probably "rolling over in his grave" because people took the elements of "TESTING" of a dog and made it into a Sport .... then they attached the Label of  "Working" Dog.   I have a lot more that I could say about this, but it is useless as lines have been drawn in the sand on this issue.

I agree Don, that's why the Am Show line is such a mess, it's all about trotting around a circle in one direction.   A pale facsimile of what the breed is supposed to be.

Actually Maggie we have Schutzhund dogs that are also involved in the sport. Schutzhund is a breed(or was) worthiness test. That has been watered down(bar lowered)  to allow lesser animals to pass many of those lessor GSD,s are of a "prancing" venue which would make Max equally ill. Schutzhund dogs also do Police K9, Search and Rescue, Therapy work, ect...

Maggie, when did I ever mention the GSD? I am talking all breeds. Generation after generation, these dogs have been bred with appearance being the main factor. What will you do when it becomes too hard to find a dog that can do what it was intended to do? Pointers that no longer point, Retrievers that no longer retrieve, and Dobermann that no longer protect man? Oh, that's right, we can make more new breeds like the Doodle that serves no purpose.

There may be a time that what you say will, indeed, happen in All breeds.  "Times Have Changed."   We live in densely populated areas and our dogs cannot run free  (not everyone is fortunate to have acres of land).   We live in "law suit happy" times....don't want a dog-bite lawsuit.   People no longer "hunt" for their food -- so hunting, too, has become a sport.   We have less and less "face-to-face" communication because of technology.    So many things are no longer the same.......Now is that a good thing or a bad thing?   Things are not always to our liking.   We each must "choose" what is best for our lifestyle and the resources we have available.   GSD Pet owners are "put down" and their "pets"  have been referred to -- on this Board -- as POS.   So, people have changed a lot too .... and NOT for the better.   I'm just rambling .......so I hope that you get my point.

I thought the subject matter here was "JEANS" not "GENES".

But I've been wrong before.

What's in your wallet? LOL

What country do you live in? Outside of SchH, most of my friends have dogs that serve a purpose and we don't all live in the city. But if I did, do you think I want that Dobermann with the 10" ears watching over my family? I have friends that have GSHP and Setters for hunting, coon hounds for hunting, livestock guardians for their farms, etc.
