One of my bitches had c section for first litter (only 3 pups so contractions never got going).  Went onto have 9 healthy puppies naturally no problem on her next season.

Thanks everyone.  Molly, what you said is exactly what my repro vet told me the other day.  Kelly, we'll be in touch and thanks for the offer.  Let's hope it doesn't come to that but I do have another girl due to whelp the following week so if push comes to shove perhaps she will foster the singleton.  I'm taking her for an xray tomorrow so fingers crossed that she has a herd that's hiding in there.  The original ultrasound showed only one but it's never been a good machine for counting,

My bitch needed a C Sec for her a litter as puppy #8 was stuck in birth cannal.  That pup did not make it.  Her two brothers behind her did.  Her next litter a year later was whelped normally with no problems.  Good luck!

Would it be possible to keep the placenta and some of the yuck ( couldnt figure out another word) to rub all over the pup? That has been done with horses to get a mare to accept an orphan. Sometimes all the cleaning begins the bonding process.

When I was showing Miniature Pinschers I had oen bitch who ended up with a litter of 6 puppies the first time saround.  They were so large she was unable to contract properly to push them out and we ended up doing a c-section.  She was a fantastic mother and went on to whelp 2 more litters naturally.
