Getting rid of a 3 yr old "possible stud dog"for a puppy. Well that is indeed very interesting. Moving to an apartment? Interesting.....

I would recommend a Rat Terrier, they are naturally clean, easily house trained and if they could possibly be 70 lbs instead of 10-13 lbs their hunt/prey/protection  drive would let them just make a GSD obsolete..........But getting hit by 13 lbs doesn't often take the bad guys down. Great for apartment living though. Ours is a tri-blue, 12.7 lbs of beautiful, driven dog who lives sucessfully with 7 GSDs. They never question her authority....

But they will not do well with someone who is not totally devoted to them..... i.e. wants to get rid of them at 3 yrs of age. Rat Terriers ALWAYS want to sleep in your bed, under the covers. They are totally devoted to their people and their people had better be prepared to be totally devoted to them.

Ours, her name is Hidi, is 6 yrs old, she has traveled extensively with us, she has more friends than we do. We used to unload at a horse show grounds and hear calls from all over, "Hidi's here, where's your ball?, Hey Baby!" she is a hit, whereever she goes. She is the bomb........

She does have an ocassional seizure, which is scary and unpleasant. The first one occured when she was about 5 months old, hence the reason I insisted that she be spayed. She had no others until she turned 4 years old and has a seizure about once every 4-6 months since. We have not put her on any medication as yet, as they are not frequent and medicating them changes them.

She had a seizure last night, I hold her until it passes and then she is back to her usual self. She is such a part of our family, it is upsetting when she has a seizure.
go figure.....
