Exactly Ruger.

The horses will now be the responsibility of you and your husband.

How is that different from someone who gets a puppy and a year down the road offloads the dog into a shelter or rescue?

It's really not.

Are you serious? There is a HUGE difference! The dogs dumped in the shelter are there because the parents would not own up to their own error and keep the dog care for it themselves. Deanna just said the horses will stay at her home and she'll care for them, and I guarantee you any animal of hers is going to live a very good life. I don't think she would have made the decision to buy those horses unless she was committing to do the work herself should the girls lose interest.

RLHAR......
IMO, much different....Our horses live as well as we do.....And I am taking responsibility for them...It is a gamble you take as a parent....I do not blame the girls...It's Life...It's Sad......I am hoping as they mature they will change their minds....

Perhaps a local youngster in 4H would be thrilled to help care for the horses in trade for using one for 4H activities?  Leasing a horse or pony was common when I was in 4H many years ago......  A win win situation.  Or......  Why don't you ride?    Beautiful BTW.

Responsibility.......  A lesson all need to learn.  Some do sooner then others.

Yes, I am serious!

We fuss and ***** on this website constantly about people who buy dogs and don't take responsibility for them, shoving them off instead into a rescue or the shelter, washing their hands ot the situation and walking away because now it's someone else's responsibility.

Where do people learn this behavior?  From how they are raised and the level of responsibility they are called upon to take up as they grow.   If the message kids get, even as they grow older and more indepdendent is that Mommy and Daddy will pick up and shell out the money for my discarded horse/dog/goldfish then why should I have to worry about consequences when I get a dog/horse/goldfish for myself?

It keeps kids from learning to THINK before they take on these responsibilities because all they know is that someone will be there to clean up after them so why worry about consequences?

Let's take a look at the lesson Deanna has taught her kids from her dog, Prince.

Prince was having aggression issues and was in serious danger of losing his home with them. I can tell you many, MANY people would have kissed the dog goodbye at that point. What did she do? Sent Prince to school, far away, and spent no small amount of money doing so. Made a separate trip to to go work with him. Then paid his trainer to to come into her home and work with her and her entire family. Now she works him every day, and sends her trainer message every few days to make sure she doing everything right. That is commitment, and she IS teaching it to those kids. She is showing them that you do NOT just throw away a dog because it's having problems. Please do not compare her to people that do.

And maybe her girls don't want to ride competitively anymore, but they still do their part, bundle up, and go feed/walk/groom. I've seen it.

Geez, Deanna, you just can't catch a break around here.

            RLHAR,,

I do understand what your saying.....However, my children did not make the decision to purchase the horses...I DID....The lesson they learn is that they still do not get designer shoes, because the horses are still here.......We are KEEPING THEM......So, IMO they will learn an important lesson

Her dog's issues were due to inept handling and a lack of research about what she was getting into.

If she doesn't want her actions reviewed and judged then maybe she shouldn't be sharing them on a public forum.

RLHAR,,,,YIkes....I am not offended,,,I do not mind being reviewed or judged.  People speaking their mind does not bother me....I speak my mind all the time....
