Hi Bazza,

How are you and your wife doing over there? I hope you are well.

by bazza on 11 January 2011 - 19:01

Doing just fine Hodie, thanks, hope you are the same.

Interested Bazza in how you define a sable. Look up Aischa von haus pe-ja. She is a sable and has a rather dark back, but the first photo posted by Reno is not a dog I would call a sable. However, the photo may not be the best. There seems to be a lot of variance in how people describe coloration and pigment.....

It is very, very cold here, but should warm up in the next few days. Fortunately, neither you nor I are in Australia where the horrific flooding is occurring.

Stay well.

I agree that my first immpression of the dog posted here was it didn't look sable, I would like to see a different photo. The name you posted is sable to me, but I remember the sable thread, and there were so many differing opinions. Especially on the showline sables, there were some who did not agree.

Bazza,

I agree, Aischa is a sable and I think it is simply a matter of how dark certain hair fibers are in the area of the back. I have other sables who are uniformly dark enough that one does not even question the fact that they are sable. I often have people with black and tans show me their dogs and call them sables....LOL.....so there is a lot of misunderstanding about this I think.

Take care.

Hey! Tell me about it!! If I had a penny for every time someone showed me a B/T with fading saddle and claimed it was sable, I would be a millionaire!!! lol.

Thanks to everyone here. I am learning a lot from this board. I hope everyone has a prosperous and healthy new year.

Hi Hodie:

The dog I posted is a sable.  I know his owner and have asked her to send me a puppy picture as well.  I will post once i receive.  He is a working line/german show line cross.

Here is a W/L sable with what I think looks something like a saddle:
