Hello All,
My pup is trying to get the rope instead of the ball. Is it because of the ball is a tennis ball or why is that ? I am guessing as he is teething his gums may be soar and so he is trying to get the softer part. May be a rubber ball works better but what is your opinion

Thanks

inc, many go for the rope instead of the ball because it's whipping around and makes for a fun target.  With a puppy you have to give yourself more control, don't allow the dog to get the rope.  I hold the rope right in front of the ball.  Sure a few times the pup might miss and get my hand but me yelping is no fun for them and they catch on after a session or two or wear gloves.  If the pup gets the rope, lift them off, don't put tension on it or play tug or it just rewards that.  If the pup is teething I'd wait a while.  My pup is now teething so we aren't doing any sort of tug, ball, ragwork, etc.  Sometimes he tugs with my other dogs but I leave that up to him.
