This is technically the same as pica - pica, also done by humans, is the actual eating of substances. In this case, you said the pup is licking the brick. If the pup is eating the brick, dirt, rocks, or other matter, then that is something else, and yes, it too is common behavior to a point in pups. The other thing the owners want to do is make sure the pup is getting enough clean water during the day.

He said the puppy just licks it, he doesn't try to eat it or eat any rocks or anything else.....Just licks the concrete and brick mortar.....He also said he is feeding Purina Pro Plan puppy and gives two vitamins a day.....I personally, don't give vitamins unless there is a reason diagnosed by a vet.....

Try a higher quality food. Maybe it's just luck, but I have never had a pup or a dog eat or lick anything weird like that; my guess is he is low or lacking in some mineral, and while it probably is nothing serious to worry about, they could do a lot better than Pro Plan. Ick.

I would be willing to bet money that even if the diet is changed, the pup will still do this if given the chance. It is not a big deal. Giving two vitamins is probably more than enough, although I agree with Jenn that the food could be better. It meets the current standards, but would certainly not be my own choice.

I agree with the dog food choice....but we all know we can not totally control what a new owner does with his puppy after it leaves us....

Thanks again, for all the info...will pass it on.....
