Ya I got teary remembering walking through the back door that day. I knew right away she was there the kitchen was a mess !!! All the ice cream melted on the floor .. step stools every where. God love her. The dad wanted to have me charged because she had a pretty good scratch on her forhead. But, the police questioned her in my home before mentioning anything about her finding to the parents. I was there listening to it all, and she told the officers when she climbed over the fence, she was afraid to fall that far, so she waited for the dog to jump up on the fence and she fell on him and his tooth scratched her forhead. I was never charge.

If you give your dog an attack command while you're, say, walking in the park at night and someone comes to assault you, is it considered an attack by YOU, or by the DOG?  What I mean is, would the police be involved and possibly cite you for using a weapon (your dog), or would it just be considered a run of the mill dog bite where the rabies and license get checked, etc?

Wonderful stories....

I have one too. When I was little (5-6?) My parents would let me walk our red mini poodle around the apartment buildings. I did it all the time. And yes, I said poodle. Rusty was 2-3 at the time. Anyway, one day I was walking him after school and when we got back to the door there were these twwo men standing on either side of it. The dog went completely berserk, and I stopped dead in my tracks at the end of the sidewalk. They were saying things like "c'mon, it's OK, you can come here" but I wouldn't move. Rusty was barking and growling and lunging and he was normally a very sweet dog. (as he got older not so much, but hey, thats a poodle for you) Anyway, the two men weren't going anywhere either, and I didn't know whether to run or hold my ground, but I could see the guys looking at the dog unsurely. We lived in the Apartment just above the door, and all of a sudden I heard someone clearing her throat. I looked up and there was my mom. As soon as the men saw her they got that "oh sh*t" look and opened the door for me. Rusty was still growling, but we got threw OK. Never saw those men again. Either way, for a 15 lb fuzzball, he was ready to do some damage, I'll tell you that.

Legalities are going to vary. Country to country, state to state, Fed, local, city,  town and neighborhood assoc. Crazy world we live in. If you're asking for you and your immediate location, contact your local law enforcement agency. Check with your courthouse and the commissioner, might be called someone different where you are located? Might even find it on the internet.

As PL stated, ARTICULATION, not saying to lie or use "power" words but play the scenario over a few times in your head.

It's going to vary and as I used to tell some of my arrestees and their lawyers, "ignorance is no defense'
