Maggie,
I was thinking as well to take him in the direction of his barking to see what has got his attention. It could be a garbage can sitting where it " doesn't belong"...lol....or a fallen tree branch ...ect....BTW he is a very nice looking boy...I would like to see more pics of him.....
Deanna...: )

Dogs bark, mine bark all the time.
I can usually figure out what they are barking at, thats important.
Learn to read his bark, pay attention.
Be that as it may I don't try to stop them from barking, but I do bring them in to give the world a rest.
Exercise and activity during the day helps calm them at night when they come in.
Mine are not in a fence, it is false security.
I'd do something about the fence if you fear he may jump it, perhaps a hot wire at the top.

Mine do not bark all the time, only when something is amiss. I know when they are barking that someone is here or something 'strange' is occuring.

Hello -- Moderators ?? Please remove the Offensive Post (above) from Wahrheit -- he/she is obviously a "re-tread" using a different name. Offensive comment deleted by Moderator.

To the other posters -- Thanks for you replies. I think that GSDTravels "hit the nail on the head." The side of the yard that was of interest to him is owned by a (divorced) Military man. He rents rooms to other Military personnel stationed in the area. Perhaps a "new" person just moved in and Rex was picking up on that.
Anyway, all is back to normal today. Other than his "Morning Hello" of a few barks, he is being quiet. I don't want him to completely stop barking when outside. I want him to "alert" me -- I just don't want the continual barking -- for both myself and my neighbors. He is a very good dog and DOES get plenty of exercise and playtime/interaction.

Well, Maggie, I think you started this thread to create drama and get attention, and Wahrheit is the only poor soul who fell right into your trap.
Multiple responders besides GSDTravels suggested that you go outside and find out what your dog is barking at, because your dog was most likely barking specifically at something new/strange in his neighborhood. But you apparently didn't even do that.
In addition, bored dogs do bark and you have stated on this board that your dog is out in the yard all day long until you bring him in at night and put him in his crate.
And you know, the Moderators may edit/delete Wahrheit's post, but part of your post is a) making assumptions about another poster just as Wahrheit made assumptions about you, and b) extremely offensive in what you wrote about him/her.

We could go bring back all threads where you have said about how you deal with the dog....truth hurts and what is offensive is that some people keep ttrophies to show off.

Wahrheit, seems to me if you look you will find that MM has deleted a vast number of her previous posts.

I make no assumptions. I write based on what the trophy owner has stated in the past about how she keeps this poor dog. It is her own admission, not something I make up. What I make is a label for how she deals with dog...."Trophy"... but all people who come here for long know in past how she writes about how she interacts with the dog. If she wants to treat dog this way, not my problem. When she asks why he barks of all of us, I have as much right to say as does anyone else here. And I don't write the kind of remarks she spews from her mouth. Only she can do that in her eyes

Yes Tess, many of us know the history of this woman and how she writes things and then when called on it, goes back to delete her prior comments. But she cannot delete the memories of so many who know how she treats the dog and behaves here. As I said, poor dog............
