"If this has gone on now for 8 weeks, I probably would go ahead and make an appointment."

Yep!

Hodie, I know that many have a high regard for you and your knowledge, thank you for your comments...

I made the appointment for the 8th of January.....In the meantime the vet said I could use an antibacterial cleanser once a day .....Oh, and one more thing....they ( the veterinarian practice ) has requested that I do not bring Prince in a prong collar...they do not believe in using prong collars....However, a muzzle is OK.....

"In the meantime the vet said I could use an antibacterial cleanser once a day."

Even if what you're seeing isn't a bacterial infection (pyoderma), using an antibacterial cleanser and/or antibiotics won't hurt anything and may help prevent a secondary infection.

"Oh, and one more thing....they ( the veterinarian practice ) has requested that I do not bring Prince in a prong collar...they do not believe in using prong collars....However, a muzzle is OK."

Now they're just showing their ignorance.

Oh, no, Deanna....call another vet, last thing you need is for him to get away with something when he's been doing so well!

The antibacterial cleaning is a good idea....and can't hurt...

The pronged collar request is a bit strange.....IMO...

Thanks for the advice....I called a veterinarian a little further away.....They said, " It is perfectly appropriate to bring Prince in a prong collar, he is your dog and you know him best."........Music to my ears.....

Pharaoh

If there is something in your yard that is irritating him, you can dip his feet in apple cider vinegar and water.

Pharaoh had those spots on his legs when he was having an irritation problem that was misdiagnosed as allergies.  I had him tested for allergies and there weren't any.

If it is fungal, the steriods are a very bad idea.

Good luck.

Pharaoh,,,What type of irritation problem was your dog having that caused those spots...??

sable59....IMO this did not warrant a rush to the veterinarian. If it doesn't involve breathing, blood or pain it is not an emergency.... I watch and give it some time.....And as I said previously it is time to have this checked out.......: )
