To change the subject slightly, I've never, ever had a dog that burped the way my Shiloh shepherd does! Yes, I've heard dogs burp, and it's usually just a modest 'uuurp' that you would hardly notice.

Last summer, my tenant and I were eating breakfast when I heard a sound that nearly rattled the windows.

"What the heck was THAT?" I asked, not trusting my ears (which don't work very well).

"Your dog just burped!" Julie replied, laughing.

If there's any truth to the rumour that dogs that burp frequently are less likely to bloat, I am NEVER going to have to worry about Teena bloating!

You guys are cracking me up.

Just get female dogs. I've been around a long time and never heard a female fart. Some were so sweet that I am certain they never even had a B/M.

Oh no!! I have a little Shiba Inu mix here with 3 puppies, her farts can bring tears to your eyes!! Will I ever be glad when she and the puppies are old enough to be placed in new homes!! My ancient JRT female can also clear a room.

LOOOL...now thats a good topic....my 7 year old stretches her head out straight and burps through her teeth...if you laugh or pay attention she will do it again..it's like a kid who learned how to force burp....than she will wag her tail..but if you say "Misty...thats not polite" she will put her head down and walk away..the worse part is she comes to you to do the burping....and it stinksssss!!

My old Shepherd girl - gone now - would really belch, not just dainty burps but big proper burps, never heard her fart in her life, but belch she made up for it!

My young Cattle dog bitch, will walk upto you point her arse in your direction, fart and nonchalantly walk away!! Even better if you are sat on the couch and she can point her butt at your face!

Red Sable, Rik, I disagree. my female Husky both farts and burps. Burps more than farts, but still.

Sunsilver my mom had a dog like that. The only thing is ...she had the lovely habit of eating dog poo. And she would eat it and then let out the loudest most awful sounding burp, I don't even know how to describe how it sounds. And the fact that she did it after she ate poop......that made it just that more disgusting LOL.

*hehe* These are some great stories.

I taught one of my puppies to burp unintentionally. I'd laugh when he did it. It was all the encouragement he needed. However, when my 10lbs puppy became a 90+ adult, it wasn't so charming. It was like living with a frat boy sometimes.

Had one dog though, and OMG this bastard could clear the room. The worst part with him was he'd let a silent-but-deadly one, sniff the air, glare at -me!-, and walk out of the room.

LOL this is hysterical. Love the stories. Echo burps, frequently. She also farts. Real squeeky sounding things when she is on the kitchen floor and yes, she looks behind her to see what it was. Can't say I've ever smelled one tho. Raw carrots will get her going like nobody's business. Now her burps, yes they stink. She'll get in your face and burp, phewee!
