Thanks Don.  I'll try that tomorrow.  We have access to just about anything you can dream up for tracking.  I am guilty of tracking her over mowed ground because it's easier on me. LOL.

Debisue, how much food do you have on the track?

Don, I stopped putting food down some time ago because she just blows by it, rarely looks for the food.  She understands I want her to find the article and when she does then I put food down on the ground when she indicates it.  She has gone so far as to pick up the article and fling it at me to indicate it.  We're working on not molesting the articles now LOL.  I failed to mention I am in Kansas and rarely do we get to track without a strong wind blowing.  (Kansas = Land of the South Wind)  15-25mph is common and the scent is often blown away so she should be concentrating on my footsteps but she wlll veer off course and have to be corrected.  She rarely misses a turn however.  I usually lay 6 articles and make several turns over a large area.  Her reward at the end is her ball.  She loves to track.  She has tracked over asphalt, gravel, short grass, tall grass, dirt, water filled ditches.  She would be good in SAR but I would like that nose down.

I also would not call a 60-65 lb female "small" - that is normal-size for a female according to the standard and IMO.

Debisue, sorry, fell asleep last night. I'll pm you later, so that were not threadjacking.

I agree with what the others are saying about her weight, that's the standard.
She looks perfect, nice pigment.

I have started health checking all my dogs for hips, elbows, heart, thyroid, eyes, DM, and testing for temperament, I may find some things I don't like, but it's a balancing act if you want the most perfect, healthy, GSD around, but unfortunately there's no such thing.
You also have bloat, epilepsy, cancer, pancreatic enzyme deficiency, and megaesophagus to dodge.

I believe some dogs shouldn't be let out of certain breed programs, and also believe that breeders should take full responsibility for what they have produced.

My fault is I haven't acheived a Schutzhund title on any of my dogs, I plan to though, it's not the end of the world for me.

I did have someone get a pup from me after being told she shouldn't from a breeder in Germany, because the sire and dam didn't have a Sch title, but she did anyway cause of  all the health checks I'm doing on my dogs and I work and title in obedience , let's see, what's more important, a dog that's going to be your well-behaved companion till well into his teen years, or a dog whose going to be a top competitor and then pass away before he turns 8 years old, I'm just looking for the happy medium.

I get a lot of puppy buyers that say their last dog passed away at  2 years or 4 years old, from genetic problems that could have been weeded out.

You sound like you are doing a basic critque on your dog, which is good, but if you really want to know what you have, you need to dig deeper!

Don and DebiSue,  rather than taking it to PMs, it would be a great topic if you guys felt like starting  a new tracking thread, but of course you are right about not taking it further on this thread.

Gentle reminder everyone, the topic of this thread is being honest about your own dogs faults.

I have actually been working with a new pup but didn't plan to introduce him until spring when I will hopefully have him under control. This boy is hard as nails and nothing seems to phase him. I've taken some bad advice and got bit a few times so will be learning the hard way on this one. Biggest fault? ME.
