Ive imported a few dogs and I have not paid any extra fees either. I have talked to a few people about importing. There is a general concensus among the people I have talked to that you should not buy from the Serbs. Now there wasnt a specific name to avoid, but Nino, from K9 International in Grand Rapids Michigan will tell you straight "DO not deal with the serbs, they will rip you off" . Nino is from somewhere over there and he is basing his opinion on his past experiences. I personally only import from Germany, or the Czech Republic. Sometimes dogs accomplishments are not recognized here, depending on where they are from. There was a time when importing from Canada was discouraged because there was a question about registration acceptance with the AKC.
One more thing to keep in mind is that the currency rate changes constantly.

dmdmitriev - How many phone calls and e-mails have you given this broker of yours? How many hours his time have you used up? How much research has he been required to do for you? 3000 may be high, but this person should be paid something shouldn't he?

Say you've called him 8 times at a minimum of 20 minutes each. And you've asked for answers to 50 or so questions that took a 20 or 30 minutes each to find the answers too. His time into helping you would be over 27 hours!

Say also that this broker also has to spend time creating requtable contacts so that he can insure a dog that's actually send to you is exactly what was advertised and that this broker assumes all risks for this, so that if you are not happy with the dog you have recourse. Also assume that this borker is also on the other end of the phone for any and all questions you have after delivery of this dog.

What is a fair wage for this broker?

I ran into the same problem. Broker in USA was trying to charge me 1500.00 more than the person in Euro. I didn't buy from either! You can find reputble people....take your time. What are you looking for...here is a nice female that is for sale...http://www.working-dog.eu/dogs-details/931405/Wayva%20von%20der%20Staatsmacht/

Sitasmom, Yes I checked and both are in USD.

Is it normal that the broker say the dog lives in one town in Slovakia and the breeder tells me the dog lives in a different town?  and that the towns are 5 hours away (I google mapped it)?  I think I trust the breeder more.

I like this bitch a lot and have been looking around for some time for one that meets all my criteria.

One of my clients send me an email and added to the cost of dogs:
You forgot papers transfers, training equipment, dealing with sellers to buy the dogs, I know my friend this business is not easy! Then you have the police who rejects dogs for ridiculous reasons, dealing with late Payment, bank costs. Customs , traffic normally 2 hrs just traffic alone in nyc!, homesick dogs, wormings just to mention a few!

Prager, I was not debating the price of the bitch.  This is the first time I have been able to talk to the breeder of the bitch and the US broker.  And I did not realize it is normal for their to be a price difference.  The service you provide, Prager, is I'm sure worth every penny that you ask.  But "Joe Shmoe" brokers, well, I don't know.

I haven't seen the bitch in person but, the breeder is ethical and honest! I have no problem going to them for a dog...as a matter of fact I did and the experience was excellent! It was also my first contact with them!
