I once fostered an Irish setter...  *sigh*  I had a doggie door that led from the downstairs to the fenced-in back yard.  I mean, it was just a flap of rubber... I'm sure everyone here understands what a doggie door is.  lol  I swear, every morning, the Irish setter would dance around in front of the doggie door, needing to go out to pee, until my 12-year-old GSD would come down and lead her through it.

Hmm... while I was writing this, I've had to question the intelligence of my littlest cat.  She is purring and rubbing up against my dog, including my dog's open mouth... then when my dog starts to lick her or mouth her, the cat turns around and hits the dog in the nose.  She doesn't use her claws for some reason, but she hits hard enough that it sounds quite loud...  Then she goes right back to rubbing up against her again.  She's maybe all of 7 pounds.  lol

Thank goodness the shepherd-type dogs have some smarts!

We just had a couple bring us a dog that was not just a labradoodle, but an AUSTRALIAN labradoodle. So people apparently pay a fortune for a mix and then pay to ship it from another country. The word on them is that the Australian ones are authentic. WTF?
Thankfully we are gaining a word of mouth reputation with regards to our training and working with herding and working breeds. I was noticing the other day that of the 12 dogs we had boarding/training last week, 6 were GSDs. 1 was a Beauceron, 1 was a Berger de Picard and the rest were housemates of the other dogs here. Nice group.
Oh, and of course there is the Jack Russell Shih tzu cross, the Jack Shit.

 ???  Hmmm?  I don't think I know that one.

Nope, I don't know Jack Shit.

Ron, the Australian labradoodle is far more than just a poodle/lab cross. Here's the story, if you're interested.

www.discoveringlabradoodles.com/labradoodle/history-of-labradoodle.htm

Not my type of dog, and I haven't liked most of the ones I"ve met, but at least there's more behind the story than just producing high-priced mutts!

What really makes me mad, though, is that everyone who breeds poodle crosses tries to pass them off as being allergy-free! Nope, NOT SO! They have to have the special allergy friendly gene, which the breeder of the Aussie labradoodles selected for.

Let's hear it again: Non-shedding coat does NOT mean the dog will not cause allergies! It just means you won't need to vacuum up drifts of dog hair in the house!

And, of course, some of the pups born to first generation labradoodle crosses have the labrador type coat. They often wind up at the pound a few days after birth, or, if the breeder is more humane, are euthanized or given away.

I have a kelpie from Neville Kings line in Australla. And a kelpie
off of the old Frank Scanlan lines from down under. They are the
best dogs with brains I have had. And I have had Boarder Collies.
But I have seen kelpies that are no good also.
Most people like the mix, but I like what I have and can depend
on them to be very good with stock.....Very dependable.
You can call  them off a meal when they are starving and they will work.
And work with brains....It's not fair to even compare them to ordinary
dogs.

OMG, Too funny!!!
How about the Shootle (shitzu/Poodle).
My sister rescued a Shepard Lab x and she calls her a  Sheprador. Only difference is she's actually pretty smart.
My mom has two Chihuahua Poodle x's  that she got from a pet store. The store owner told her they were called Chewpoos. Ha, Ha.I could not believe she paid two hundred dollars for them.

Just finished reading the 22 page post on crossing SL and WL  to get a better over all dog. I am new to this forum and thought it would be an interesting discussion. WOW what a mud slinging cat fight that was.

This post is just what I needed after that.

Thanks

Clc29........Welcome! And I hope you have thick skin, 'cause those knock-down drag out, name calling brawls of threads are very common here. We weren't moderated until very recently, & many felt (& still feel!) that they are entitled to say ANYTHING they want without regard for ethics, manners, truth, or whatever! It makes this board an exciting place, sometimes, but can interfere with the knowledgable threads. At times this board reminds me of the end of the movie Blazing Saddles, when the brawling cowboys spilled across several sets in the movie lot....when things get fired up here, it can do just that, & spill across several threads! I try to be civil to everyone, I am here to learn, & to adore the puppies of others from afar!!! Welcome, & enjoy the ride! jackie harris
