I have not heard anything about that Jen. I have shipped 50 + puppies with American over the last 6 years WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL! There can always be mistakes with any airline EVEN WITH CONTINENTAL!!! You can bet they have had their share of deaths. Not here to argue. Just share my experience. You want to argue go else where.

BHall said it best. Also Alaskan Air is good. If you ship from Europe and care for the animals is most important to you I use Lufthansa, Continental, Delta in that order. If Simplicity and cost is important then Delta is on top. Continental is in between Lufthansa and Delta. Also Delta is trying to ship in hot weather now too. Always try Delta first.

If everyone understood WHY certain airlines are "better" there would be no question who you wanted to ship with. This isn't about arguing at all. My airline pilot friend (who happens to work for American) would never fly his own dog on one of their planes due to how EASY it is to accidentally kill them all due to the setup. Continental has a totally different procedure and designated pet flights, whereas it's happened many times that the PILOTS don't even know animals are on board certain flights. It's happened to both my father and my friend and that was enough for my dad to volunteer to pick up my puppy many years ago rather than fly him from Washington until I proved to him that they had much improved airline travel for pets on certain airlines since the last time he was flying for the airlines.
Again, Pet Airways is awesome,too.
