If I am going to war I would take an ugly dog that can protect and aid me, if I am going for a walk I would take a nice looking dog along with me. If there is a dog that combines both I would take him for war and for walk.

Felloffher,

Nope, not for me......workability is TOPS!  Getting the "look" like Stadtfeld and Karthago are just a bonus.  Karthago has a "type" set with in their kennel concerning looks.  I do find it interesting how well their dogs look AND work!

Karthago dogs:

This last one is my ugly dog! LOL  Vinetta Karthago and the dog above her is Dean Calderon's dog and littermate to my dog......Verdi Karthago

I personally love the Mohnwiese dogs. Again, dogs that have the workability and looks. But I agree with you on the others as well.

I am finding these days that I like just as many working line dogs, if not more, than German show lines (and I like both, am active in showing German show lines).  I don't necessarily want a working line to look just like a show line either.  That is one thing that confuses me...I see so many people condemn the show lines for their extreme structure but then turn around and offer up "good looking" working line dogs that have the same type.  I don't like the extreme type in ANY line.  I like a "middle V" type dog, working line or show line.  (and this is assuming that the temperament is there and the dog CAN work....that's another SL/WL debate!)

I have a deposit on a male working line puppy that I chose in order to SHOW.  He was born in Aug. and I'll be showing him starting mid-December.  When I picked him I did not have to compromise or sacrifice anything as far as looks, assuming he comes out pretty much like the sire or dam or both.

Whoever mentioned questioning whether Stadtfeld dogs can work...here's my bitch who goes back to several Stadtfeld dogs; click on them and see what you think. Personally, I think there should be more kennels like them emphasizing the total package. I hate that we are almost totally left w/ugly, washed out, coyote-looking dogs w/barely "G" structure (if the judge is in a good mood) KKL2...if anything....just because they have over-the-top prey. If everyone were pickier and made sure the dog had the WHOLE package...we wouldn't be having this discussion in the first place.

I am starting to notice the Fegelhof name as producing working dogs that also look great for example V Karn vom Fegelhof. His progeny are also looking super..

Personally I like the Stadtfeld dogs.  That Etzel was a hunk and had it all going on, IMO.  All my dogs go back to him...................

EisenFaust, I couldn't agree more. As I have a Karn Fegelhof daughter and a grandson out of a Karn Fegelhof son. I have personally met and watched several of his offspring work while in Germany last spring. I love what he is producing. They are some tough dogs too! But very clear headed on the two I have. I will be breeding my Karn daughter when she comes in, but have yet to decide on a stud dog yet.
