Louise Penery is correct about his back IMO, and this is very common now in the west german WL and SL GSDs. Under stress after hard work, the back forms a peak at this point in many like an inverted V, and many innervation difficulties to the rear can come from this. Suggestion, do not over stress the back of such a dog. The best GSDs for Sch and bitework have short strong backs and are short in the loin, allowing much more resistance to injury and stress damage from hard work.
This dog in my view is not KK1 material (and most WL dogs are not, even the top profung winners). So what.
Why disrespect the dog by expecting him to be a conformation dog when he wasn't bred for that. Back before 1980, all GSDs WL and SL came from the same breeders and WL dogs had better confirmation. When folks became so ultra competitive in WL and SL they bifurcated the breed intentuionally to obtain higher placements in WL or SL whichever their thing was. The problem is that SL and WL competitions (both) are just way too ultra competitive and the GSDs in those sports values are often predicated and limited to how well they perform narrow functions required. There are some worthy WL GSDs that have the best temperament available and atre also have worthy confirmation, but their progeny that look good (and even they are a minority from even these V rated WL parents) are infrequent and very, very expensive. If I wanted one the first person I would call would probably be Joseph Mavrick of Eurosport K9. It is possible that he could help find a WL GSD that could win in the showring. He has imported WL GSDs with KKl and V ratings and he has a very good track record.

I like your boy and he is not roached by any means...Preston and Louise gave you the very much right critique. You will get none better any where and certainly not in the showring..
I would swim him often and keep him on half concrete and half sandy in his outdoor kennels, and I would continue in his sport training and get his BH and schuzt 1. Just be very sure your helper ./catcher has experience and is not a newbie to the helper suit....only an experienced catcher or not at all...
I like him very very much...My black bitch has a crook in her tail and she is dominant with it..it goes up in air when she stalks the property for something she smells or hears.
I may have a pic but this is your thread so i won't Hijack it..

Your post was supposed to be a joke i think. However to be serious about this Show side for WL dogs
over here you will be hard pushed to find a Show just for WL dogs, we enter them against the SL dogs to get a Grade, just as i did with my Dog, She was competing against mostly SL dogs about 4 working ling dogs in the group, and i had to go to the far side of the country to Show her, but of course that is really no distance to you Guys
mfh27
Good Luck with your Dog, have a go with him do not take in any negative vibes from anyone who says he is not up to doing something, No one can tell for sure until you have a go and that is what it is all about, Having a go
Me' i do it just to spite the ones who say it cannot be done.

mfh27,
Nice boy you have. Here I was reading about a critique, then some spinal concerns!
He is still young, so don't worry about anything. Work him like any dog. A dog can't be happy if it's not doing what it likes to do. Right?
My theory is this: Quality of life is better than longevity of life. Ex.: When I found out my Police Dog had 3 compressed disc, I continued his work, though slightly on a softer level to where he was not in any pain and to where he still loved to do it. Because I felt that if I took him away from what he loved, then what was his quality of life? To him, awful. I'd rather shorten his life and he be happy, than extend his life and he be miserable.
Anyway, just keep doing what your doing. He has nice structure and is what most WL GSDs are.

Does he runs, jumps, listens, protects, kicks ass and loves you? Is he healthy and has both testicles, good hips and elbows and all the teeth? If yes, he is a good dog.

Hi mfh27,
Rob looks good.
He looks above medium size, medium strong ,grey dog of very good proportions.
Good head and expression.(prefer head to be stronger)
firm back with a short, very well laid croup and a good tail set.
The withers should be higher.
Very good front angulations, with a well placed shoulder blade
and a upper arm of very good length.
The hind angulation is very good.
Rob has a good depth of chest, with a good underline and tuck up.
The fore chest could be better developed.
He stands strait in front.
To me ,Rob's strength lies in his hindquarters:
1) His back looks strong.
2) His croup is of very good lay .( I'd prefer the lay(position) to the length.
A dog is required to have both the length and correct lay
in order to transmit the drive from the hindquarters ,for good movement.)
3) His hind angulation is very good, with good length of bones.
The areas Rob should be stronger in are:
(These are very important areas in the show ring)
1) The strength of head. -.Males must have a strong ,masculine head
2) The withers must be higher than the back and of good length.
3) The croup is required to have a lay of 23 deg. and a good length.
( Rob's lay of croup looks correct, but the length is short.)
Just trying to be of help.

Do any of these resemble a proper stack? I'm trying to get a decent photo of my boy. I know I need to work on getting his legs parallel, tail down, head up (and not positioning him next to a fire pit nor facing the sun).
Thanks!
