This is a puppy and there will be much laxity with the joints! The puppy was positioned poorly for the radiograph. I see no problem thus far with these hips and would allow the puppy to mature normally and see what I got at twelve (12) or twenty-four (24) months.
This example is why I am not in favour of using anesthaesia other than a calming dose. A dog who is fully sedated can be made to show excessive laxity due to poor technique by the veterinarian and his staff.
Best Regards,
Bob-O

Elkoorr,
Sachsen bei Ansbach.
Bob-O,
Thanks! I've tried to find a localish vet that will do films w/o anesthesia and all (even the specialties) refuse to. Knowing my lines and comparing to other x-rays of adults, I think her hips will be sound, but if they continue to be sublux they may be difficult to get an OFA number on.

Where are you located? Maybe you could ask the board if anyone knows a vet who takes them w/out anesthesia. I found one recently and was thrilled w/the results. There's a certain skill in handling dogs who are wide awake, but I really like that the dog can tell you if they start to pull them too far. I'm waiting for OFA's decision right now on my first "physical restraint only" films.

I agree with Bob-O.
As to a vet who will x-ray without anesthaesia, I can testify that its also hard to find one in my area. I tried and could never find one who would do it. Not sure if it's a money thing (more $$ with anesthaesia) or because they want to do it the easiest way possible for them? I don't know ... but it would be nice to have a vet who would do without the anesthaesia if asked.

Too early to tell IMO . Especially if she comes from heavy boned slow amaturing dogs ie DDR or Czech. Wait till 10 months.
