The dogs I see going to our DOD guys are started around 15 months and may deploy before two years of age. These are high end hand picked dogs in Europe. I know several guys who go overseas to test and select the dogs. Some of the dogs are battle tested and proven, but when you go out on deployment and get hit with IED's, get into several firefights and get shelled repeatedly it can get stressful for the dogs and soldiers. The dogs range in age and don't deploy until they feel they are ready. It can happen to older dogs as well.

The program that I am familiar with your dog would never get past number 5 on the list that it has to be tested by to even get into the program, if he was immature, mentally not able or immature or not fit for the job..It is not just done by trainers out in fields..
The programs for Rescue and military bomb dogs is a program no animal can be rushed thru..If they show any signs of any waver in any direction early in the steps they are ELIMINATED immediately..YOu do not get to go on just because .
Cannot answer for this one dog but still the same thing applies. Whatr a dog is subject to on the BAttle field, unless you are a soldier you have no clue how bad it is.
SLAMDUNC and other PD in our counties get to witness some of these K9's as they come home.

Dogs trained in Germany are from top bloolines and have a lot of programs that have been introduced here in the USA by the Police School and are of great value to us..
