RLHAR are you using those Orbee balls or any SOFT or HOLLOW rubber ball on string, or a tennis ball?  If so, those nasty soft squishable balls turn dogs into slobber factories, they make the slobber factor MUCH worse, (to say nothing of how they promote icky chewing instead of a good hard firm grip).

Try switching to hard solid rubber balls on strings like Frabo balls.  I get them from Jim at Hallmark:   http://www.hallmarkk9.com/fraboballonrope-medium.aspx  There will still be a little slobber, you can't get away from it completely, but NOTHING like the great gobs of frothy white slime produced by chewing on soft balls!!!!!!!

The other thing you can do is carry a small rag in your pocket to wipe off the slime after you out the ball & before you stick it back in your armpit or pocket, because after you out your dog  there's always gonna be a little spittle.

I personally just wipe the ball on my vest when it gets too slimey, but it doesn't bother me like it does you.  My thing is dirt under my fingernails.  It  drives me crazy and makes me cringe!!!!!!

Sueinc has a good idea..like a referee carries a wet towel on belt  just carry a wet small towel on yours...The ball on string is better and the rubber sport balls are easier to wipe with another rag...one for towel  for dog and the other for your hands..

 Sue and YRoT,

Good idea about the towel!  I need to grab something!

Sue, I actually like the solid balls best and have a couple of them in my tool box but for the longest time he had very low ball drive so I got the hollow balls that squish to try to coax him into 'playing' with it.  The gambit worked, his ball drive is now through the ceiling so I'll see about weaning him back to the solid balls but if his interest wanes ... with squishy slimey balls I am stuck.

Sorry but this had me laughing so hard!!! Sorry RHLAR but it is FUNNY ;-)
Because I have a confession too, though I have no slime phobia (I braved owning a Saint Bernard! And would do it again in a minute!) Slime about caused me to have a heart attack.

The other day, out of the corner of my eye, I caught a dark spot on my leg and was like "what the ....AARRGGHHHH?"  I screamed and was swatting at my leg.  It looked like a huge, hairy...
SPIDER..

<SHUDDER> <GAG> <SHUDDER>

Apparently one of the dogs slimed my leg then leaned on me, and a clump of dog hair stuck to it. I freaked even more because it was stuck on there pretty good and I was sure for a split second.... it bit me. I honestly thought I felt it bite me.

<Nervous laugh>

I HATE big spiders. I almost crashed my old truck once because one was crawling up my leg and I squished it trying to get it off of me, and the guts made me start gagging.. Once I caused a barn full of beautiful (and already flighty) Arabians to FLIP because I went to open the latch on my own horse's stall, and there was a wolf spider the size of my hand on the latch as I reached for it... UGHHHHHH

Now I have the creepy crawly feeling and don't wanna go to bed LOL

Good luck with the slime

This morning i was throwing a ball on a short rope for Izzy to  bring back. She reaches it before it lands with the wet grass everything is Slimy rope, Ball etc
I tell her the word BRING when she picks the ball up and she sits in front of me I tell here to LOS and she waits for the second Ball to be thrown, However it was so Slimy i could not hold the rope and it finshed up the wrong way in someones Garden dead opposite the way i intended it to go, That was a real Slimy Ball on a rope to do that,, It very nearly sticks your Fingers together like super glue, Later on i must go to the house and ask for my ball back they cost 12 dollars each

Steve,

I know what you mean!  I think the 'sticky' factor adds to my phobia!

You and VR would have been laughing at me last night.  I was throwing the ball for the dogs and of course it got slimed up to beat the band and I hold it by the rope and then overhand toss it to get distance.  Well by the 10th throw, slime is flying off the ball so I reach back, throw and am ducking and scooting around trying to avoid the flying driblets of slime falling from the sky.

I feel your pain dear LOL I'd have only been laughing until a spider came walking by... Then I'd be on the ceiling fan with you
hahaha!!!
Maybe try one of those crazy hypnotists? :-) I heard hypnosis can work if you let yourself believe it... Seems kinda extreme, now that I typed it though

I tried to overcome my phobia years ago by taking a friend's advice and getting a very small "pet" tarantula.... It was fuzzy and made me itchy but I started holding it. Well it was calm most of the time and I made the "bonding" sessions short.
My brothers girlfriend came over while I had it on my hand and when it moved a little she screamed and the blasted thing got scared and run up my bare arm to my neck....Talk about a screaming, arm flailing FIT...
I gave it away the same day LOL

My concern for you, having always been a fine & upstanding member of this forum, made me want to help you!
You are not alone my friend...
