OMG, SitasMom..

Thanks for sharing this video.. http://www.youtube.com/user/fiercefreeleancer
Everyone needs to see this, and it explains everything.. Why, for example, the banks are paying lip service to helping homeowners ride out these rough times and stay in their homes.. when in fact, they are not doing anything to help homeowners.
And, now that I know George Soros is involved in it... This is "the man who broke the Bank of England". He is a well known meddler and profiteer in markets worldwide, profiting with uncanny timing with short sells, when tragedy hits markets and economies. He portrays himself as a philanthropist. LOL To me, he is a likely candidate for "the Antichrist", or "Mr Big", maybe a .007 evil financial genius, bent on taking over the world by causing a series of financial crises. He is big friends with the Democrats, by the way.. Go figure.

I dunno, guys.. Maybe you know better than me on this topic. It's been a long time since I was in Germany. Last I was there, I was shocked at the price of a meal in a "restaurant".. more like a truck stop cafeteria I stopped at, and very, very spare decorations. I remember food costing like four times what it did here.

A friend of mine who is a globe galloping businessman from Belgium always delights at the cost of restaurant meals when he comes here for business. He likes one particular buffet.. actually two of them that I know of, and says the food is "so cheap". He has a warehouse in Belgium AND in Germany. Several years ago, he was telling me that bank loans to businesses were extremely cheap.. something like 4%. Now, it's a completely different story. They are not lending and are leaning hard on him in these tough times.

I know that French farmers have had to have government subsidies to survive for a long time, now and have demonstrated very vigorously when there were talks of cutting back on government assistance.

So much food in Europe is "slow food" or more traditional foods, raised locally. I see on TV that there is a lot of talk now of buying from local farmers.. but, I know there are not many of those in S. California. Real small farmers tend to struggle quite a bit, dealing with all the cycles of weather, planting, harvest, and then marketing their produce. They generally lack the economics of scale needed to get their produce into larger distribution chains, and are stuck with trucking their goods to local community "farmer's markets", usually once a week. Most people won't bother to wait for those. They just go to the big retail grocer to buy what they need.

Sitas Mom,

That is the simplest, best explanation of how it works.  That is why so many are losing their houses and loan modifications are a joke.  The make more money if they forclose.  I have tried to explain it to people and they don't understand.  This video, I believe, is very clear, concise and readily understandable.

I have known about this for a long time and I have tried to explain how it works.  As an accountant, I probably used words and concepts that are too complicated.  This video is for everybody to enjoy and understand.

I will be sending this link to virtually everyone.

Thanks again,

Michele

I didn't really let the numbers sink in from your earlier post..

"over here you will pay for Royal Canin G.S kibble 82 USA dollars for a 28lb bag
for Orijen Adult it will cost 97 USA dollars for 32lb bag, and you think that cheaper than the USA
all other kibbles are a comparable price"

My goodness! I feel so badly for you! I buy Pedigree kibble, and it is under $20 (tax included) for a 44 lb bag. Another better quality food "Nutra Nuggets" costs under $30 (tax included) for 40 lbs.

The Pedigree works fine for me. I prefer to use it like the old timers used to do, as sort of a biscuit or pulverized hard tack, mixed with fresh or cooked food.  I usually add in cooked chicken or table scraps, like fat scraps, old dried bologna, sour cream, sour milk, vegetables and even lettuce, slow cooked in a crock pot. I just got some whole chickens on sale for $.59 a pound. THAT's a deal! Before that, I got part of the contents of a freezer that was unplugged.. chickens from 2004.. not suitable for our tastes, but fine for the dogs. These are very meaty chickens, too. I toss in a bit of vinegar to break down the bones and the dogs get the minerals and bone marrow, as well..nothing goes to waste. They absolutely love this, and if the human food is a little old, it doesn't matter.

I learned to can many years ago, and I have a large supply of mason jars. I've only canned tomatoes and peaches, apricots up to now. Those you can do in a hot water bath canning kettle, and very safe. For meats, beans, green leafy and carrots, peas, etc you need to have a pressure cooker canner. I'm going to invest in one, very soon, because I want to pick up on the chicken when it's on sale, but I'm tired of having the limitations of a freezer, and the need to cook the chicken before I use it. This way, I can just put the chicken up, already cooked, and it's ready to use. I could also can fish, and it is possible sometimes to get large amounts of fish for not so much money.

Many, many years ago, I tried an experiment with restaurant food from the kitchen of a smorgasbord we knew the owners of. They'd give me big buckets of kitchen waste and I'd go through it all, cook it up, and give it to the dogs. It was a lot of work, and financially I didn't need to do it, but I wanted to see if it could be done. It worked great! Here in the US, a typical family throws out a lot of food, because they overbuy or don't use it on time. That's a shame, really. Why waste it?

On the importation of dogs from poor countries (mongrels, many of them sick), there is a large body of knowledge about this and documentation.

http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/APR_summer_2010.pdf

"These groups deceptively mask their anti-breeding campaigns
as efforts to end cruelty or curb an alleged glut of
dogs in shelters. ......
 As to shelter glut, some
areas of the US actually import dogs from other parts of the
US and even from the streets of foreign countries to fill
empty runs. Dogs from the southern US are heading north
and stray dogs from the streets of Caribbean islands, the
Middle East, the Orient, and Mexico are entering the US to
be sold by shelters.

Perhaps you were there when the exchange rate wasn't very good?

Sure there are but they're all growing pot now.

I find it ironic that ddr-dsh starts a thread on food. Seeing as she couldn't even feed her own dogs, and was charged with such.

DDR DSH/Janice Bartmess, this is what someone "big hearted" does to their animals? www.pet-abuse.com/cases/8106/CA/US/ Well, those five little puppies you mention were three days old, so yes, they were inside, but at any rate, they were also taken by the "humane" workers, and I saw the last one alive in their filthy, disease ridden impound facility in a four by four foot kennel, damp, dirty floor.. puppies very stunted for lack of food. Veterinarian testified that they were being fed cafeteria style ("free fed") from a hopper type feeder, about eighteen inches off the ground, with cheap, dry Purina dog food in it.. large chunks about the size of a table grape. How is a weaning puppy expected to eat that, much less reach it? The mother was carrying the next to the last pup in her mouth, frantically pacing the kennel and looking at me, like, "Get me out of here". The pup she was carrying was almost dead. She just went around and around, carrying that pup, while the one stunted pup still alive just watched her, bewildered. Mother was given a tiny blue plaster mixing tray with a hand towel in it. The towel was orange. It was no way big enough for all of them and the floor was damp and dirty, full of bacteria and coccidia, no doubt. Those pups were doomed from the time the "humane officers" got them. All died. Shameful day for law enforcement.. This was a litter I had planned for four years, and hoped to kick off a program to produce occasional donations for law enforcement. They don't need any help from the public. They do quite well for themselves, it seems, even if it involves cheating and lying. So, be it. I donated dogs in the past to a major metro PD and US Customs ( I have evidence to prove this, also), but never again. Not entirely their fault, of course.. They are only as stupid as the average person, and the average person is deceived by "animal rights" lies and activism, so.. I just expected a little more, you know, than a Joe SixPack mentality and gullibility from law enforcement and prosecutors who have been told that breeders are evil (Why? So that AR / rescue people can hog the pet market and bury their private sector competition?) In case people haven't figured it out, yet, the "humane" industry is just an impound industry (like auto impound), taking and selling private property on any pretense they can. Also, in case no one has figured it out, yet, this list is infested with animal rights legal / propaganda activists. I never said I was totally without fault.. I NEVER said that. But, I say their case was not so righteous. It is too easy to lie, fabricate / tamper with / suppress evidence. You are guilty until YOU prove yourself innocent, and that is not the responsibility of anyone but the defendant and their lawyers. The truth matters for nothing in a court of law, unless you have the kind of money it takes (a lot) to stay the course for perhaps months to get it out in court, eventually. It generally isn't worth it, if you can take a plea. That's why people take pleas, and that's why prosecutors offer pleas, because they are not always so motivated or comfortable with their case. Interesting new development in the news.. An appeals court overturned the Federal conviction of a man who wore all sort of military medals he didn't earn and told war stories that were fabricated, based on First Ammendment rights.. So, it's OK to lie.. It's called "Free Speech". I could be lying, or Sock Puppet could be lying or Schaferhunden, or the reporter who wrote that story, based on allegations made by a public employee, all of which is protected under "qualified immunity" clauses. There is nothing anyone can do about it.. We are free to lie, at will! I guess that means that we are also free to believe in lies. And, we do.. all the time? So, I hope that there is a God (and I believe that there is!) because He / It is eternal, immutable truth, and knows all.. I can't speak for Him, but personally, I believe that God does not lov

Goodbye by DDR-DSH on 10 April 2010 - 20:04 DDR-DSH Posts: 763 Joined: Mon Dec 26, 2005 01:23 am I gave it all a lot of thought, last night, and I think this will be my last post to this list. People complain about the vitriol and bullying, but do this and other silly games, themselves. I guess sometimes we don't SEE that WE are doing it, ourselves. I may be culpable, I admit.. If I hurt anyone, I apologize. What I DO see is a lot of tit-for-tat, people wanting to jump into each other's shit, challenging and confrontation, rumor mongering and so forth. All about provocation, hurting, hurting back, and defense of a lot of flaming egos.. Folks, that isn't worth a hill of beans, and it's a huge waste of time. Looking back, I think some of the biggest wastes of my time and energy have been on email lists and blogs like this. In case you guys haven't figured it out, it's all about creating website traffic and selling advertising, mainly by exploiting compulsive social behavior. I don't want to be compulsive and tied into petty conflicts, which bear no fruit and can never be won. People are nuts.. They ask opinions, try to get you drawn into their little personal drama, and then ignore your advice or slap you in the face for your trouble... Or, you get called out for it, and put on the spot, with only two options.. burn more time trying to sell or defend yourself or your ideas, or slink away and drop the matter. I'm pretty tough, but not without feelings. We ALL have feelings. We almost all have opinions.. I don't think there's anyone out there without opinions on something of concern to us. But we gain by exchanging ideas.. even if we don't particularly LIKE those ideas. The fact is that humans learn only by experience.. their own, or that of others. Exchange of ideas is a good thing! We also gain by risking. No one can tell you for sure the outcome of any action or venture. You can only weigh the risk / benefit ratio as best you can, but you can never really know the final outcome. I guess I'm like most people, that I do tend to avoid conflict.. but moreover, I avoid irrelevant, fruitless conflict. I like to say: "Pick your battles".. Go for what's important to you, and try to go for the battles you can win. We can't take on the world. I guess the key is learning our own limitations and NOT getting sucked into things by means of emotion. Emotion is irrational, and very addictive. It can also be used as a tool for self improvement. But, not many people know this. Most people identify so strongly with their own feelings, their likes and dislikes, that they have literally no other sense of self, and no other means of fulfillment and self-validation. Well, enough of the preachy stuff.. Peace out, guys! ps.. It's a shame, but I get the impression that a lot of good people have checked out of this ongoing discourse for much the same reasons. Only the smarter ones with the most to offer figure this out, by the way.. "Bat shit crazy, but (thank God) NOT a drama addict!
