The other thing that I do that I got from someone who worked for the airlines is I tape a small sign on the front of the crate that says something along the lines of:

"Hi, my name is X.  I am a 2 year old (breed).  This is my first time flying so please forgive me if I bark.  I would appreciate a kind word or two if you have the time."

Also, it is always my dog's first time flying ;-)  This and zip ties (I drill holes by the door and zip tie the door shut top and bottom) are a must when I fly.

Why would anyone want to use Uship?!?

Anyone can get on there, these are not always professional shippers.  These people might haul or transport something inorder to finance their vacation..... and I would NEVER leave my dog in the hands of a person who:

1)  Isn't experienced
2) They could get away from some one on a "potty break"
3) Travel time is going to MUCH MUCH longer!
4) You are sending your dog with the LOWEST BIDDER.....you get what you pay for!
5) Since these people are not professionals then they also might not have appropriate insurance and good luck tracking them to to collect from them if they should injur, loose or kill your dog!

Stick with Continental and buy a crate off of Craigslist.....try 1 size smaller crate than what the website says......I recently shipped 2 huge shepherds in 500 size crates(the crates were the right size, the ears touched a little on the top) and Continental didn't say anything at all.  If they give me crap about the ears touching the top of the crate I just say to them "if it was a lab of the same size it would be the same difference, after all the dog is going to lay down 90% of the time in here anyway!"  Only one time have I had to trade out a crate and that dog was going to the Dominican Republic and I knew it was iffy so I brought 2 crates anyway.

I did it!

I signed up and placed an ad for our dog. Hero is a very happy go lucky, confident and obedient dog and I knew he would have no trouble being shipped back by air contitioned van. As the bids started coming in I noticed the feedback button and started checking up on the different bidders. The price was right, so I decided to give uship a try. I'm glad I did! David (NPCI) , with whom I contraced, is wonderful.

He really spoiled Hero the whole way back. Stopped to take him on walks whenever he was restless, let him sit inbetween the seats (astro van) with his head on David's lap. Gave him lots of treats. He kept in constant communicantion and was a pleasure to work with.

Door to door delivery great too, no dealing with the airport traffic and expensive parking rates either. Next time I need a pet or anything else shipped, I will be listing on this wonderful site. See above for the link.

Next time I need a Hero or some of my other dogs shipped, I will do it again, especially if I know far enough ahead so I can schedule David again!

Its not for everyone, and not for every dog, but for Hero it worked out perfectly, and we saved 350 bucks.
