I don't mean Joe Carroll; I mean my kennel name, not my personal one :-)
My website went down about a year ago. The host vanished, taking everything. I had the sourcecode, but the images and graphics vanished too. I still have an outdated myspace page, but what with my daughter born in Aug 08, and my son born less than a year later, and of course my dogs and role as active-duty military... you can see how worrying about a website was the least of my concerns. I didn't think anything of it.
Then, one day, I notice a dog with the same last name as my kennel, but don't recognize the dog or the owner. I did a little google research, and found a website touting workingline GSDs -- my program has a showline aspect, and a workingline aspect -- using the same kennel name, about 60mi or so from my kennel.
I'm skeptical of coincidence. Especially interesting is one of their dogs has the same name as my 16mo old SG1 female; except their dog is about a year younger than mine.
Again, I doubt coincidence. Both dogs are AKC registered, but mine has her pink papers through the UScA.
Kennel name could be coincidence; but same geographic area and same dog name are a few too many coincidences for my liking. I mean, it's still possible, but again, it's a bit more than I'm happy about.
My first name is Juliana, aka Julie, which makes my name Julie Carroll. *chuckles* It leads to a bit of confusion in the show world now and then. I'm not worried about my personal name when it comes to my dogs. Just for their names.
That's weird, who would want the same name as another breeder in the same country, let alone so close by?
It does not matter where you are, but maybe going to a cheap lawyer on a possible id theft issue. In CA there is an attorney on a radio station 640 on Sat for several hours early in the am. Best wishes.
I'm curious- Why do some people not join USA?
That does sound way too much like a coincidence. I would be more than upset too. Best luck getting it sorted out.

My kennel name is registered via USA and AKC - I don't recall the requirement to be involved in AKC events when I registered my kennel name (and was approved) - I do recall the # of litters/studs etc. Was the events requirement added recently?

I'm just wondering. Are you sure that his dogs have your kennel name on their AKC papers? Is it possible that he advertises his kennel with one name but registers his dogs with another? When I registered my last litter, I was told by someone at the AKC that they would not approve a name registration for a kennel if a pattern of using that name had already been established by another person. In other words, if I am using the name "vom dog" on all my pups and have established a pattern of doing so, they will not register a kennel "vom dog".

Julie,
Who here in Illinois is using your "kennel" name?.....
I would contact this person and let them know that you registered your kennel name and ask they stop using it. Some people are just ignorant and think "whats the harm". Any chance they purchased a dog from you or acquired a dog from someone else and got papers on the dog?
If the person refuses to stop using your kennel name then I would seek legal action against it. Im sure you put alot of time and work into your kennel and I certainly wouldnt have some thief stealing your bloodlines and reputation. When I was going to register my kennel name through AKC (some 10,000 years ago ha) I was required to have x number of litters within a period of time and titles I put on the dogs (ie a CH) and some other stupid requirements. All it told me was if I bred my dogs to death I could have a kennel name registered with AKC. STUPID IMO.
