"TessJ10.... This dog is not in VM's possession, as she is on the West coast."

Uh, I know that, as VM clearly stated the situation in the OP.

And I understand not wanting a high-kill shelter to pick it up.  I just suggested that at least the people on site LOOK for an owner before whisking the dog away to a new home, and AC is usually the place that would know if someone is searching for a lost or stolen pet.

Very glad to hear the dog will get out of that field!

Don't worry, Tess. The rescue will be on the lookout for the dog's possible owner. It's just safer to do it from a rescue rather than a pound.

Got it, VM.  So glad they will.

I used to live in Miami, and lost a dog once - an old dog that slipped out of the house and wandered off.  I found him after a week - he'd wandered miles!  I was so afraid a gator would eat him - anyway, I found him because the Dade County humane society kept a book where they recorded every phone call people reported about seeing a lost dog.

I went to the pound every day looking for him and had posters up in English and Spanish everywhere.  Eventually he got sick of being lost and went onto someone's porch and barked.  And barked.  And barked.  They weren't dog people and wouldn't let him in, but they did put out water for him, God bless them, and called the humane society.  So he hung out in the bushes during the heat of the day and covered their doormat with shedding hair at night.  But that simple check with the humane society brought him back home again.
