ive had several dogs live and die from parvo on my property. ive even waited 2-3 years to bring in and unexposed dog and it would still contract the virus. ive nursed a few to live and a few who jus weren't strong enough. usually if the puppy is healthy and has at least 2 shots and is taken care of... it can make it where parvo has been before. but i dont find that the 6 months to 1 year is correct. because it has never left my property. but i have learned if u bring a dog at least 4 months better if its 6 months... that they usually dont contract the virus. they need a healthy immune system.

parvio is very tough and even strange to deal with, it can pop up anytime no matter how hard you work to keep it out of your kennel.

I was told 6-7 years by a vet years ago that was a senior partner in a large clinic ;who was also a professor PHD so I believe him...I wont sell anyone a pup that lives in a place where parvo or distemper has been...I was also told that on of these two is air born...so which one....and I do not even take my pets to the vets office unless I ask,,,has a parvo case been in here today.....
Most vets will advise you to not put a puppy down and I dont take them in,,,I ask my vet to come out to my truck...
Never had it and dont know of any of my dog people who have either....I just know it is highly contagious and deathly if not caught immediately, and is very costly .

It is recommended to not bring a pup that has not had at least 2 set of vaccination or under a year old into a contaminated area or one that was conatminated within the last 2-3 years. I have nurse many thru it, lost a few. The ones that made it thru it, always had a weaker immune system and were more likely to catch whatever was going around. I had a cur I nursed thru parvo, 5 months later we had a hurricane that tore the roof off the barn. There was an exposed nail and due tot he rain it rusted quickly. The dog bumped up against the nail and by the time I found a vet that knew what was wrong it was to late, 3 weeks in intensive care and over 1000 bucks later he died. From Canine Tetnus. Vet said it was due to the weakened immune system.
The only vaccines I myself will use are Shering Plough. I have dealt with their vet extensively on parvo cases and their vaccine. They have a vaccine that is much better at crossing the maternal barrier at a younger age and they garaunte their vaccines. If a pet develops a disease for which it had recieve 2 rounds ofvaccines for, they will pay all vet bills, period, as long as there is documentation of the vaccination
Just a little tip, If you do the vaccines yourself, peel the label off and place it on the puppy's/dogs record along with the date. I have met many vets that will not accept vaccinations records unless they come from another vet clinic or have the label attached. It is also documentation in the case of a claim.
