LAVK-9

by LAVK-9 on 26 May 2010 - 18:05

There is your fault right there. I use to work at a vet clinic and could get Science Diet for free. You couldn't pay me to feed that to a dog. Also I would never feed puppy. There is the reason for your pups having pano.Puppy food has too much protine and they can't handle. I have never fed puppy food and had no problems with the pups I had and the litter I raised. A puppy shouldn't have to have asprin or glucosamine if she was on a good adult food from the start....NOT Science Diet. If you want her to gain weight switch her to something good now. I realized that the vet..at least the one i worked for...didn't know crap about foods and what is good. They get promotional things from food companies and then push food that isn't good just to make a buck.

LAVK-9  is correct....you shouldnt have to give your dog aspirin all the time. That isnt good on the liver or kidneys for that matter. Neither is adding to many supplements. Your dog should be on a good quality food (NOT Science Diet). If you want to go grain free Wellness CORE is a good one and so is Innova EVO. What ever food you feed make sure that the first ingredient is actually a meat!!

Can I throw in a question w/o causing a problem?  Got a three year old slightly under weight that is 3-4 weeks exposed to a stud dog.  What should I do to supplement her diet if anything?  She is on the small side in size. This is first litter.

Only two things you need to remember about Vitamins
Water soluble vitamins, any excess will be rejected by the subjects body,
Oil bound Vitiamins, any excess cannot be rejected by the body

Can you add too many supplements to dog food?

Oh, come on, dude, what is your dog, a walking pharmacy?

The answer to your question is - yes, too much of anything is not good.

Pharaoh

Science Diet  Is an oxymoron.  That formula is full of corn, soy, vegetable oils etc.

There are many good quality dog foods and that is not one of them.

Pharaoh is not good with flax, soy, milk products or vegetable or salmon oil.  I had him tested for allergies and he has none, oddly enough.  Observation and rotation-elimination testing brought me to these conclusions.

He is happy with raw egg yolks, canned sardines (packed in water-no salt).  He eats raw chicken on the bone, frozen raw green tripe and soaked Taste of the Wild Wetlands formula (it has no vegetable oil or flax).  His coat is thick and gorgeous and his breath has no smell and his teeth stay clean.  He has endless energy and stamina.

Good luck with your quest,

Michele
