Here in Northern Virginia, Wegmans sells 10 pound bags of chicken quarters at 39c a pound. I don't know if they do it nationally but if you have a local Wegmans it is worth checking out.

nans, try creston valley meats in ca.  contact name would be simon caleb.  (unless that's where you get your raw from already?)

Thanks for the Creston Valley meats tip;  I will look them up.  No I haven't gotten any meats from them;  am shopping everywhere, am also trying to eliminate running all over the place.

Thx  Nan

simon makes group deliveries up and down the ca cost.  from what i've heard, he has nice quality meats for a reasonable price. he also has some of the exotic meats (possibly game meats as well). i helped switch 3 dogs over in so. cal. and they have been using him for possibly a year, and the owner is very happy with the products.

I buy and raise up myself.

Newborns: $4.50 for 50 peeps (100 peeps $7.50) $112.00 for a Angus bull calf. (if you buy 10 it's $95.00 each)
$75.00 for a Brangus bull calf. ($65.00 if you buy 10 or more)

If not a newborn the price skyrockets by each pound gained. I like the newborns, most kids like to bottle feed and keeps them busy for a month or two. Then turn the bulls out for about 8 months then butcher as needed. With the beef, this cycles every two years. Chicken cycles 3 times a year if I'm lucky .. owls, eagles, moongoose and fox eat most the peeps 1/2 the time.

Right now Im feeding frozen turkey ground from Food for Less @ a buck a lb. I go back and forth with chicken leg quarters (.59 a lb). I think the best coats come from feeding beef but its really expensive right now so unless its on clearance (exp date up) I dont buy it. I would be interested in the Yahoo group that is able to buy clearance meat from the store. That would be awesome.

Onyxgirl can you put up the link for the Yahoo group that does this? Im not in CA but could maybe start something like that here if there isnt already one.

Hi Jim
The price you pay to feed your Male K9 is very near excatly what it costs to feed my Male in Kibble, if i could get the Raw at that price i would feed it in a heart beat, I guess the two females would cost a little less, overall feeding what i do it costs me about 240 dollars a month to feed my three dogs

Hey Steve,
I buy my chicken in bulk, by the 40 lb case so it is a little cheaper.  Overall, l I think it costs me about $20 more a month to feed my male raw vs kibble.  For me it is very effective and easy.  My police Dept pays a portion of my males food bill, they contribute the same amount they spend on kibble for the other dogs and allow me to feed what I want.  I pay the rest out of pocket.

Yes, Creston Valley meats site seemed really excellent.  I will call them and get on delivery list.  Thanks for the tip,  Nanci
