Could it be that the breeder was told that the puppy would go to a loving home, sounds like a farm, where there was plenty of room to run and play? After 3 years, you get the dog and blame the breeder? Not saying your wrong, just that sometimes people sell themselves and their ability to be able to get a dog. Not sure what the breeders responsibility is 3 years later?

Daryl,
I guess I wasn't clear......the people who bought the dog (as a puppy) brought her to me. She appears underfed but they said she is a fence runner, which she IS! And VERY high prey drive!
Vicki,
Could it be that the breeder was told that the puppy would go to a loving home, sounds like a farm, where there was plenty of room to run and play? Not,
It could be, but the dog was in the owners home for about 3 years. Yes, I do blame the breeder after 3 years! The dog was placed in a situation where she was set-up to fail. This is NEITHER fair to the buyer nor the dog! I don't know why some breeders don't realize that!? After all, the dog is just doing what it's instinct tells it to do!
A RESPONSIBLE breeder makes sure
1.) they know what they are breeding (in this case the breeder produces high drive puppies and has no clue!) the only thing this breeder knows is that they have dogs with good pedigrees, because they paid A LOT of money for their breeding pair!
2.) If the breeder was aware that the dogs are high drive he would have KNOWN a "farm" situation with livestock WAS NOT ideal and would have told the buyers so and dirrected them to another puppy or breed/breeder all together!
3.) This breeder ONLY cares about the $$$$$ with no regard to the buyers situation.
4.) ALL RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS (in my eyes) would take a dog back EVEN IF it is 3 years old! Now, the people didn't take the dog back to the breeder because they have moved but I tell ANY AND ALL of my buyers that I will take the dog back no matter what age and no matter what the circumstance is......I have a NO QUESTIONS ASKED policy on returns!

I also believe that, as a breeder, I am responsible for a dog for it's lifetime.......even after it is sold! I created that life and if the dog should fall into a situation where it is fixing to be homeless or is unwanted, I want MY dog back! That to me is a responsible breeder even after 3 years or 13 years, whatever the case maybe! With my no questions asked policy on returns, there is NO reason for any dog that I have bred to fall into the shelter/pound or a rescue!

I've had a few 'fence runners', and they can be very difficult to keep weight on.
I recall one pup I sold at four months old, with decent drive, and two months later returned to me with complete over the top nutso drive (and way too much for that handler). Dogs can change after leaving the breeder.
Maybe you should talk with the breeder before condemning them.

Daryl,
I swear! Your reading comprehension baffels me!
Why are you CONSTANTLY picking at me? And what does my PAST PERSONAL issue have to do with what I am talking about here? I understand you have some dislike for me but WTF man?
I had some PERSONAL issues............if you can remember that I had to rehome my dogs you can remember how to go look up the issue for Christ sake! I also rehomed them RESPONSIBLY! IF YOU MUST KNOW.................I am getting back on my feet, am no longer homeless and I train dogs and groom them FOR A LIVING. I lived at my RENTED building (kennel/grooming business) for months untill I was able to reconcile my PERSONAL ISSUE. I was able to get back 2 of the 3 bitches that I sold........................................NOW, YOU HAPPY? Do you need to know which 2 bitches or?????????????? IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT MY PERSONAL SITUATION? If there is PLEASE send me a PM because this questioning me here is really starting to ruin my day!
BACK TO THE ISSUE: I SAID the dog appeared underfed and I also said she was a fence runner......duh, most people can see that that equates maybe to the dog being thin...I guess you just had to state it so you could RE-READ IT......that reading comprehension thing, huh?
Now, the owner said the breeder had moved and I believe that they did because their house was for sale about 8 months ago...where they went no one knows! Bottom line, the breeder doesn't do a good job in knowing what they produce and placing these high drive puppies. I took in a bitch from their buyer because they, after almost 3 years, couldn't take anymore of the dogs drive....aka...fence running, horse and chicken chasing. And the dog never ate the chickens, just ran them to death! The dog has been a delight here, playing ball.....a new game for her and learning some obedience....sit and platz. It is raining here today so couldn't really go tracking.

I respect your passion for dogs, but I must respectfully disagree with you. If you or any other breeder says they know the what drives will be dominate in a puppy at maturity they are wrong. To be responsible for every dog you breed for the life of that dog is simply unrealistic. Yes, to help place the dog in a better home, or to assist in that effort, but to say the breeder is responsible for ever, for every dog is beyond sanity.
