Maybe he will lead a long heathy life.

Many displastic dogs do.

My beautiful Phantom (Phanny) lived to be 11 1/2 and it was cancer that killed her.

LAVK-9,
I've read about that study regarding glucosamine too, however...my old girl didn't read it.  She went from having trouble getting up and hobbling around to being able to get up quickly and move out without limping and the only thing we did was start giving her the glucosamine.  That's what made me a believer in it...I pooh poohed it at first when someone else with a HD dog recommended it...wish I had started her on it when it was recommended...may have helped her sooner and lasted longer.  But thanks for the additional info...I'll be sure to check into the Hyalouronic acid (for both of us LOL).

I'm so sorry....it just hurts your heart to see them like that! I still have a 'kicked in the gut' feeling when I think about my Beckett's x-rays. It's amazing that they still have such enthusiasm for everything! I was so blown away, at first I really didn't know what to do....but looking into Beckett's soulful eyes cleared that up. He's my bud, & that's that! jackie harris

I've seen worse dysplastic X-rays.  Try not to be too upset about it, just take it easy on him - no deliberate running or jumping. Do start giving him glucosamine and chondroitin supplements now, before he's showing any pain. And sometimes adding hyaluronic acid and MSM as well increases the positive effect.  I have a somewhat dysplastic female soon to be 8 and she is getting along quite well on a supplement 2x daily which includes glucosamine, chondroitin, hyaluronic acid and MSM.  I found out about the hyaluronic acid from my othopedic surgeon. It works for me and seems to be helping my dog.  Health food stores or aisles have this supplement combination. It's for people, but great for dogs too.
