 Hi Robin,

There are many reasons for pulmonary edema, but this is very weird and who knows the reason. Are the dogs vaccinated? There are viral and bacterial infections that could account for this. There may be something they do with what they feed that could be problematic. Who knows. But sure, a fungal infection is something to rule out.

Yes they are all Vaccinated and on HWP but I will for sure let you know what the Histopath shows.-- it was just odd that you would mention Washington when that is where her kinfolks are from.

Okay I sent her this fourm and this is what she sent back to me IF you can answer her questions please let me know.

Thanks for the leads. I read them over.
You misunderstood me.... my family is not from Washington; they are from Vancouver Island, British Columbia that is where the articles are saying is the source of the outbreak in 1999 to 2003. Vancouver Island is off the coast of Wa. and B.C.. So they are from this small Island which is a maybe a days drive from one end to the other and a couple hours at most from east to west.
Another thing I am wondering is, could something like this grow in a healthy persons lungs, produce spores, yet not effect them immediately while being able to transport the spores where they go? Fungi have a complicated life cycle... I wish I had not dropped my botany class during fungi life cycles.... who would have know it would have come in handy?

The fungus and or spores would not enter a living mammal and then be liberated in another place, if that is what your friend is asking. However, the fungus is spreading and the thing that is of concern with this one is that fungal infections generally only bother other organisms with immune systems that are not working well. This fungus can affect healthy animals, and that is the huge concern. The article is very interesting reading, although I admit perhaps a little tough for lay people.
