German "J" is pronounced "H" in English so something like Jaguar??

I bet there is actually a Gaelic explanation to that spelling.

Jaecar isn't German. Jaeger (as others have said, with the ae replacing the a with an umlaut) means "Hunter" and is pronounced "Yay-ger" ("g" as in growl). If you wanted to pronounce Jaecar in German it would be "Yay-kar" (with a rolled "r", but it doesn't mean anything).
"J" isn't pronounced as "H" in German Nans _gsd -- that's Spanish! (Jalapeno is said Halapeno.)

WOW!!! I can't believe all the replies lol... Thanks all :-) ... I was looking up German "J" names and on several different baby Name sites I found JAECAR, as Steve said it means Hunter.
Maybe it's just a really old name that no one uses (or maybe it's pronunciation is so ugly no one likes it, haha!) I thought it seemed original, so was thinking of using it, for a dog not a child.
I was assuming the "Jae" was the same pronunciation as in Jaeger.... (I also don't have the (..) to go over the a on my keyboard.
Thanks to everyone for replying...
Ulli, nice to see you! I am still looking into what we talked about before, I haven't forgotten, just no news :-)
Jackal, my husband is of Mexican ancestry and used to tease me all the time for pronouncing jalapeno (keyboard also doesn't have the ~ for over the n) incorrectly. I would pronounce it hala peeno instead of hala pen yo. LOL
Again thanks to all for helping, I guess I have an idea now. And at least if I do pronounce Jaecar wrong, no one will know hehehe ;-)
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Stacy

Well, sorry to disappoint you, oldster, but as Ulli, who is German, has pointed out, the German word for hunter is Jäger. I recognize that his translation is correct not only because I lived in Germany for several years and speak fluent German but because I've never ordered a Jaecarschnitzel in a restaurant (love Jägerschnitzel though!) or drank a shot of Jaecarmeister.

Well whatever it is or means it is definitely better than "Fart".

Several sites may say it is Hunter and is German because those name/baby name sites often pull from the same original sources or copy each other.
German is not my first language but I personally have never seen or heard the word Jaecar or even seen the letter "c" used that way in other German words.
