"She is spayed..... will be 4 is September.
Unfortunately not current on shots. IS DUE FOR THEM.
We have had her since she was a puppy....
we ended up with her because she was abandoned by the person that took her.
He just left her back on the door step of where he got her."
Looks like Matilda will be abandoned again.

Do any of you know how often I see emails or get phone calls like this? It is almost weekly. In a months time I get 10-15 emails and phone calls like this. People don't have a child and think they will get a dog. Then they have a baby and suddenly, they have no time for the dog they neglected to socialize and train. This happens constantly. Or like this week, a guy in the military has to move into an apartment and he can't take the GSD. Or a million other lame ass reasons to abandon one's GSD. Go look at your shelter and see how many dogs are there!
This situation here is EXACTLY why people like me, Steph, and the few others here who do GSD rescue are such fanatics about the over-breeding and producing of pups for the stupid reasons we hear, including on this forum. We have people here breeding GSDs who know nothing about the breed, we have some who do it because the mom enjoys having puppies, we have people who tell us a lot of reasons why they do it, but for so many it IS about thinking they can make a few bucks. "Think" about this, as someone posted above. That person is correct. THINK how few really appropriate homes there are out there for working dogs. Think how few people REALLY will take the time to make sure the dog is socialized, vetted and trained. Think about what type of life the dog will have when the people who buy the pup tire of it.
Dogs are incredibly adaptable, but shifting a dog from one home to the other is hard on the dog, let alone unfair. Today already I received two phone calls from people wanting to dump their 2 and 3 yr old GSD, for similar reasons - baby and no time, worried the dog might hurt the baby because they are so stupid they have no sense about how to properly care for a baby. Two days ago I got a phone call from someone who wanted to dump his 9 year old male.
It never ends and after doing it for 15 years, I often think it made absolutely NO difference to try to help. It may just be that rescues and shelters should be put out of business and that people who take a dog and then decide they don't want it should be required to put it to sleep themselves. What we are doing is not working. But breed away folks.....have you looked at some of the ads on this forum a lone from the U.S. recently advertising a pup and then stating that if you don't want a pup from that breeding "there are two other litters on the ground to choose from" or some such nonsense? This is the tip of the iceberg. Google GSD puppies for sale or something like it and go to all the BS web sites where people are selling pups. Look. And then come back and flame away.

This one just showed up on our Craiglist - we're about 2 1/2 hours away from Green Bay. I also sent them the link to a local GSD rescue. Socialization and just basic training could have prevented this.
