I use bleach, too.

Am I the only one who uses the germicidal version of Chlorox...full strength? I pour it in the kennel and let it sit for a while, sometimes overnight. I do rinse well.

What is the actual bleach content? Look at the container to see. Normal household bleach is 5-6%. If you are using it full strength and it is 5-6% bleach, or higher, putting it on full strength is not necessary at all and in time will ruin the surface it is being poured on. Bleach is extremely corrosive. Also, if you are not getting it dilute enough before it goes down drains, and if your pipes are metal anywhere along the line, over time it might eat them away......

Another idea I have , is; I work with Hydrogen Peroxide pure (H202). I can put it in my container as a mix then spray it just like the bleach mix. I use it for puppy smells and stains and it is the best thing to use to get these things out of fabrics and carpet. I know the only ill affects would be rinsing properly because it can and will chemical burn the feet if wet. I use it for just about everything around the house anyway.... So what do you think?

NO to hydrogen peroxide as a disinfectant. It is only 3% strength unless you buy industrial brands. And don't think bleach won't burn if it is not rinsed. But it is not as toxic as some of the high powered things mentioned in the thread.

I do buy the H202 Pure 70%

H2O2 is a very strong oxidizer and at the strength you buy, potentially dangerous for a lot of reasons. As well, it is considered a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). The adverse health effects are many, including as you already noted, burns, and not just to the feet if there are vapors being breathed in. I know, of course, that it is used in dilution for water disinfection etc., but I don't think I would be using it as a kennel disinfectant. Your choice.....

I know it can be used as a propellant, but I don't plan on boiling it in a confined area. All of my kennels are well ventilated and it would be a minimum of 24 hrs until they went back into it after cleaning.
Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizer effective in controlling sulfide and organic-related odors. It is typically applied to a wastewater system where there is a retention time of 30 minutes to 5 hours before hydrogen sulfide is released. Hydrogen peroxide oxidizes the hydrogen sulfide and promotes bio-oxidation of organic odors. Hydrogen peroxide decomposes to oxygen and water.
Mixed with baking soda and a small amount of hand soap, hydrogen peroxide is effective at removing skunk odor.
I don't know, bleach vapors, and the chemical itself I am not fond of. H202 has no odor, and it won't destroy my kennels.

I know all about H202, used to work with it at the "rocket ranch" where we had many thousands of gallons of all kinds of chemicals all over the plant. It was also used there in the wastewater treatment plant (I had a wastewater/water treatment certification in those days). I know it has some ability to help with odors, but I don't like the irritant issue or the carcinogen issue. To each his/her own.

That is why I am asking. I would not be on here asking for your opinion if I knew. I do know about the H2o2 issues, I work with it every day. I just don't know what the best thing to use would be. I also know 70% makes for extremely poor propellant compared to 90% or better. Maybe I'll stick with bleach or check out Vikron like you suggested hodie. I have a 3" drain pipe into a rock bed, so I would be glad to get rid of those weeds.
