I just had a LE agency test one of my dogs this past week and he passed their tests and they really liked the dog. The trouble was they only wanted, and supposedly had $1500 to spend on the dog. This is a dog who has had some training and has a fanatical retrieve drive and would do very, very well in detection work, for sure. The department claims budget issues, but on the same hand admits most of the dogs they have looked at are not even close to the quality of my dog. So I think it depends on where one lives, but for now, I guess I will just keep the dog and continue training myself.

As an aside, the budget in the city near where I live is in shambles and many cuts are proposed, including fire, police, animal control (already cut to the bone and non-existent in most of the county) and other personnel who could be considered essential. The police department has already sold one of the choppers it has, and I think they have a second one that is now also for sale or mothballed.

This makes me livid given that the damn city manager's position pays $200,000 plus! For what? An organized person? BS.....We have lost our heads on these kinds of salaries.

Hodie,

I don't know what part of the country you are in but when a city manager is at $200K or better that is crazy, of course most of them have CPA or MBA degrees so they are "special".  And you have assets such as choppers that are luxuries around here.  Crap don't mothball the things Sell Them.  If you have a car you could not afford to keep what would you do? SELL IT!!! What does this over paid city manager have on his mind??? Probably, where is his next kick-back coming from!!!

While the city personnel are going to hell in a hand basket - THERE ARE SOME REAL POLITICAL ISSUES HAPPENING!!!!

But, of course you already knew that.  Somebody needs to do an independent audit of the city. And keep everybody, especially the City Mgr as far away as possible.   And a pile of shit will show up somewhere, it does 85% of the time.  Cities don't fall apart for no reason.

Embezzlement is on the rise and rising fast.  From companies, schools, churches, governments, all large and small alike.

Hey, I'm the kind of guy that would be pushing for some answers and organizing to get people out of office.  If it jeopardizes your job, do it behind the scenes.

If I can help let me know.

Hey Dunc, take a look at the site DADDAC of which I have been a member for years. Jenny and Darren Sparks, they have funding procedures for dogs. Mike, Vom Brunhaus
