Agar, many good suggestions here,I,m with moons I don't know if I would want to stress a young pup at an early age.Work on the puppies scenting ability at a young age, drag a small piece of raw meat around in the puppies whelping box, in my opinion the scenting ability will be the first thing to develope. At around 5 weeks I like to elevate the food on a box 12 inches or so off the surface and provide a ramp for them to climb up to get the food.Just drag the raw meat up the ramp and onto the box, they figure it out pretty quick. A little later when they get confident climbing the ramp, you can add a second box with a walkboard from one to the other, place the food on the second box, forcing them to cross from one box to the other to get the food, make the board narrower as their confidence improves. The box with the food has to be wide enough so they can't rear  up on the sides to get the food.As for bottles, I would'nt put anything inside the bottles and I would also remove the caps and plastic rings.

Agar,
I can see they are alert and seem to be talking to you...

"I would do nothing to stress a puppy from between days 3 and 16 no matter what I read about military experiments."

You might want to read the article and learn what they mean by "stress" and about the benefits observed by the program before you make that judgement.

Keith,
I know basically what it's about, the topic has been discussed before.

It's my own beliefs not a judgment of the information,
I'm just not into it due to my different lifestyle.
I interfere with mother and pups as little as possible for the first week and then only a little for the next.
A little more each week there after.

And I never go near Google when I can help it,
I don't like what they do with the information they glean.

Moons.

Your welcome for the photos. I'm always happy to toss in a brag pic or 2.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Michael I especially liked your idea with the ramps; I will definately try that one.

Moons, Good luck with your litter also and if you have some pics to share please do brag. :)

I know your puppies are older now, but to add (in gratitude for you starting a dog-related thread ):

handling of the puppies in the nest, so that long before their eyes and ears are open, they are extremely familiar with the smell and the feel and the hands of humans as a positive thing.  Then when their eyes and ears open, they're like, "It's YOU!" and they know you and your family intimately already.  So cute.
