I start my puppies on raw at about 3 weeks of age......meaning raw animal matter, no veggies or any other crap. There's a HUGE rawfeeders group on Yahoo Groups, massive amounts of info. It is a great place to get rid of the terror that you are killing your dog with bones and lack of carbs!

I feed my dogs raw and they are doing great on it. The RawFeeding and RatChat Yahoo groups are the best for info, but look through archives before posting questions. Generally you'll feed 2-3% of your dog's bodyweight per day. I do one feeding with my dogs but two would be fine too.
Types of meat...you can use almost anything. Most beef bones are too hard and most people avoid them, and some other weight bearing bones (pork leg bones, etc). But most are fine. Chicken is great to start out with...usually it's suggested to start cold turkey. Start out with one protein source, and once the dog is okay with it (no diarrhea), add a new one til the dog settles, repeat. Some dogs are more sensitive than others - you may be able to switch it up quickly or, if the dog is more sensitive, it may take a week or so to get used to a new protein source.
Variety is important, my dogs usually get beef (tripe and sometimes steak if it's on sale), pork, turkey, chicken, venison, and mutton on a regular basis. Free range/grass fed meat is best if you can get it.

You do have to be careful with pregnant dogs, too much or too little calcium and they can get eclampsia. But the Yahoo group would be the best place to learn about that.
