Rocknroll, why would you call this guy a fake? Do you know him?

"BUT, after staying for a few days, I realized their main purpose is to stop the proliferation of purebred dogs! They have shirts, cups, you name it, that say, um, I forget the exact wording because I would never adhere to it, but something along the lines of "If you want a dog, don't go to a breeder, go to a shelter." The message was loud clear that if you own a purebred, you're part of the problem and something they frown upon."
I've encountered this sort of Mutt Pride movement with the local shelters, but for them it's definitely about encouraging people to give a shelter dog a home and not buy from a pet store. They're trying to make the point that if a family just wants a pet, a cross can be just as good as a purebred (depending on what they're looking for, of course). It's more to counteract people only valuing purebred dogs and bypassing a cross bred that might actually be perfect for their lifestyle.
That said, there certainly are enough purebreds in shelters and rescues. I agree that an animal that can't be helped shouldn't take up funds that could be used to help others, but I'm glad I'm not the one who has to make that decision. My "hopeless" rescue dog is not so hopeless after all, and I'm glad they saved him so I could adopt him. I've since seen a fair number of fairly nice dogs that look like purebred GSDs be adopted as well, so I think the whole "don't worry about pedigree if you just want a pet, and maybe consider an adult instead of a puppy" is a good strategy for both dogs and people. That doesn't mean that purebreds don't have their place, particularly if you want the dog to serve a specific function other than a general companion. I don't adhere to "Don't breed or buy while others die" as the right strategy for everyone. (I believe that's the slogan you were thinking of?)

Triode, I didn't mean to hijack your thread, and I think most of these peoples' hearts are in the right place. I am by no means demeaning the work this particular guy is doing. It just seems that the push is toward training and putting so many resources into problems...if you know what I mean. So I seriously wonder if there's not some power behind all the hype toward this goal. I'm cynical about most things and always questioning motives.
TM, I don't necessarily agree with the Whisperer or any others, just saying I can understand training dogs in existing homes, whatever the style. At least it's more toward a positive outcome.

I wasn't that impressed with him.He didn't do anything more then just traing the dogs. That is what they should have had in the first place!! Some of those dogs might not have been aggressive but through being there and having all the dogs barking they start to get aggressive.I have seen it in the shelter here and there was a boxer that was put down. Now they know to call me for training.I just don't have my own show....not that I would want one.Just another start of a cult as is with the Dog Wisperer and the Horse Wisperer.
